In all seriousness, what the hell is it that you mean by "news outlets"?
"News outlets" is quite the broad, squishy, non-committal, and--above all--fleeting label. Innit? W.T.F. Sweet, whatever. Are you kidding me? As if there haven't been alternative "news outlets" for years, and years, now, including explicitly and specifically conservative ones, not to mention even more fundamentally "true conservative" ones, not to mention ones that do a pretty great job of representing the opinions of so many subsets.

Wait. Are you saying that all of that effort toward putting down information was only about grasping for a way to control thinking?
Make no mistake about this: 1) This makes me sad, and 2) I have to wonder what it is that you all aren't willing to say.
Why are you bothering with "media," then, at all? You've been around for many, many years now, opining, offering information, distributing facts, trying to convince & etc.
Are you also an example of the sort emblematic of: Media is all lies all the time.
Also, a question: What sorts of media are you consuming such that you think those very media are 1) not news-outlets, yet also 2) news outlets, yet 3) not sources of facts, yet 4) sources of facts, and also 5) great sources of context, not to mention 6) horrible sources of context?
It's a muddle, your views of "media" and also your understanding (or lack thereof) of your own self as having been enmeshed in social media for at least close onto a decade or so.

Yes, and I've been doing it outside of the media unless I can corroborate what they are saying to use in my ability to factually opine. Very rarely do I use the media as an example of any facts. Most of the time, they get it simply wrong, with a drippy occasion of actual fact based reporting that has meaning and substance. Otherwise, I won't use it or even bring it up. Go back and look at any of my posts here and at TOP and see that I'm right.
To answer your other question about what media I do consume. Mainly it's books and other sources of information outside of the united states. For example, I will go to Al-Jeezera, Der Speigel, Le Monde, Guardian, The London Times, New York Times, Washington Times. If I see something dubious, I will call them out on it and I have in the past. If I want trite sources of 'news' then I'll go to anywhere else on the web. The truth is out there, you just have to know where to look.
However, the overarching theme of what I said is that media is all lies all the time and that is pretty true. Even in the sources I sited there are consistent propaganda strewn throughout them all. Most of which is strewn with little vignettes of truth to appeal to the reader, but is nearly all biased opinion. Granted, I am biased opinion personified, but my standards are different than theirs. They believe they have a journalistic ethic and they can cushion their reputations behind the facade of 'journalism'. I don't have that luxury. I have to prove almost everything I say or be challenged on it. Like you are doing now and I'm hoping I am meeting that challenge.

Sweet--acknowledge what you know.

Methadras:
I am looking forward to what you have to say.
I have not watched any of the network news programs since I got my computer.
