A Spectrum Of Racism Is Haunting America

So Oprah Winfrey is stirring the pot again. She basically accused everyday Americans of turning on Obama because he's black.

Here is my take on racism is America:

There are two types of racists: those who actively clamor for their race, vote for their race, and cheer lead for their race, and those who clamor against another race, vote against a race, and badmouth another race. They are the two extremes. The vast majority of Americans try to stay somewhere between the two extremes, i.e., somewhere on the line above. True neutrality is believing that race is irrelevant.

Oprah was guilty of promoting Obama merely because he was black. She thought that was an important factor. Millions of Americans were convinced of that too but are changing their minds. They are no longer racists, contrary to what Oprah says.

This bears repeating because of the succinct awesomeness of it.

Oprah Winfrey: Americans Disrespect Obama Because He Is Black.

NO, IT’S BECAUSE HE’S A FUCK-UP. YOU’RE NOT HELPING BLACK PEOPLE OUT BY BLURRING THE DISTINCTION.

It's early, but Palladian ftw.

I used to think Oprah was both intelligent and reasonably honest. No longer.

The notion that racism explains why people are so mean to President Obama is ludicrous.

> Bush was chimp/hitler and had a movie made about his assassination.

> Clinton was impeached, and the focus of lots of crazy conspiracy theories.

> Bush the elder's manhood was pretty consistently mocked--by people on the right and left.

> Reagan was stupid and evil.

> Carter was lampooned pretty savagely.

> Nixon...

Do I really need to go on?

Haven't any of you miscreants ever wasted some time watching the Oprah channel?

This woman is an amazing narcissist surrounded by a large posse of yes-women (and they're all "women", too).

That her buddy & mega-choice for President, Barack Obama, is a grade-A fuck up reflects badly on her judgmental capabilities. Therefore, there's got to be another reason why things are not going well for BO.

The success of a nullity like OW is just one more example of how this country suffers from the stupidification of its womenfolk (one of my pet peeves).

If what Op says were true, i dont think JZ could have decided as he did, to stick with Barney's.
Just saying.

I haven't ever watched her channel, but I recall seeing her program some years ago. My impression was based largely on that.

No question, she's narcissistic. Remember the way SNL mocked her: "The Oprah has spoken!"

But being a narcissist doesn't mean she's not smart or honest, nor does backing Obama. Even where a smart liberal would see the train-wreck of Obamacare, one might well figure, better him than the alternative.

While I think the really smart thing, from the liberal side, would have been to have Romney win--then all this becomes his fault, and Obama is primed to save the day in 2017--not many people have the vision, or stomach, for that sort of approach.

The best part of this is that Oprah and the Crack Emcee agree on this.

As they do on so many things.

Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha!!!!

We shouldn't judge people by the content of their character, but on the color of their skin.
Right, Oprah?

ot: While watching college football on TV, I just saw the biggest health care propaganda commercial. It was an attempt to get people to sign up on the Colorado exchange without saying it was the Colorado exchange. The ad was filled with every liberal cliché about health care - "it's about people, not profits.".
What bullshit.

If everyone is forced to buy the ACA plans, everyone will PAY more, all with a higher deductible. That's the point. That's why the BIG insurance corporations got into bed with this thing. PROFITS.

America is sliding down hill. The propaganda is everywhere. It would be nice, for a change, if Americans understood and said no.
Behold: Oprah. Don't get your hopes up.

I think Obama and Oprah should go on TV and demand recompense because they are being bullied by the mean news media and those dirty insurance companies that just don't want to break the law because Obama says they can.

They are bullies I tell you. Old white bully men.

Insurance companies should make a profit - (within the confines of the free-market, honest competition w/out coercion and government backroom deals and bailouts)... That's why they are in business.
Leftwing liars insist: "profits are bad" and then turn around and hand our hard-earned tax dollars over to their cronies. Backroom deals are struck with Pelosi and Co and lies are used to propagandize the masses into buying and believing. The side show of Oprah declaring Racism! is all part of the big fake.

Insurance companies should make a profit

Insurance, of all kinds, is basically gambling. You are betting that something bad (illness, auto accident, house fire) might happen to you so you pay the insurance policy premiums to hedge your bet. The insurance company is betting that among the larger pool of people that are also playing the game, not that many will actually have that something bad happen. So the insurance company will pay out some claims but they are betting that the pay out will be less than the premiums coming in.

For the insurance companies when the pools of people are adequately distributed (some sick people but more healthy people) and when the insurance company can figure out their odds (actuarial accounting) then they can make some profit and pass some of those profits onto the shareholders.

Obama has rigged the game and there is no way that the insurance companies can win. The game is fixed and within a very few years, most companies will be out of business.

Just like Las Vegas. The house is betting that you are going to lose and that if they DO have to pay out it will be more than compensated by the money lost gambling by other people. They make a huge profit on this statistical fact. So far the government hasn't tried to make Las Vegas "fair". So far.

Here's the deal. Life isn't fair. Some people win....some people lose. You can bet on it either way.

Name the last president who was not disrespected by a large % of the country?

Even a racist can be right about something, but in this case she isn't.

Can you translate this, please?

From your diagram it seems you're trying to say that there are extremists who are pro-their own race and other extremists who are pro-other races (whatever that means), as anchors on a continuum. But that was really poorly stated.

True neutrality is believing that race is irrelevant.

True intelligence is recognizing that just because something should be irrelevant, doesn't mean that it is. You seem to be confusing idealism with reality. Striving for neutrality doesn't mean that a neutral equilibrium has been achieved.

That said, I more or less agree with Palladian @3:06. Race is somewhat irrelevant in the long run but I don't see virtue in being told to look away when minor or even immaterial racist impulses or instances of that heritage rear their head. Do you?

The racism schtick about Barack Obama is not about racism...it is about Oprah not admitting she was wrong.

I am not sure why Crack is going off on racism lately (he diid not support Obama for President), but I am sure Mitt Romney is somehow to blame.

Do you mean like fist-bumping and Black Power salutes?

I'm baiting you Ritmo but I'm fairly certain that you believe blacks are incapable of racism.

Do you mean like fist-bumping...

That's just a lack of discomfort around black people that those afraid of cultural or demographic changes (you?) don't share.

I'm baiting you Ritmo but I'm fairly certain that you believe blacks are incapable of racism.

So then do you want a serious answer or not? You say "baiting" -- that implies it's more for show than for serious conversation.

If you want my serious answer just let me know when you're ready.

Knock yourself out, ritmo.

Surprise me, because I have a pretty good idea of what you'll say. Prove me incapable of predicting you.

I think there are more people who voted for Obama because he was black than there are people who voted against him because of his race. I'm fairly certain that the pundits and comedians treat his screw ups with far more tact and discretion than they would a white President. There's such a thing as racism and plenty of black people get the short end of the stick, but Obama isn't one of them. Neither is Oprah. They're both net winners in the race game which they play deftly.
