In the 2nd photo, that huge lake with the island south of Sinabung looks like the Toba caldera, created after the supervolcano under it exploded about 74,000 years ago, ushering in an Ice Age. That supervolcano is expected to explode again sometime --- maybe Sinabung is the warm-up act?

Ah. I wonder what the scenario is for an encroaching ice age. How quickly to they progress, etc.
Indonesia and the Philippines are chockablock with active volcanoes. Most of them are going to be middling beasts, only once in a generation do we get a Pinatubo or Krakatoa.

The earth upchucks.
Beautiful countryside. Is this the fault of G.W. Bush?
The world is a nifty place.
Dangerous . . . but nifty.
What could go wrong?
Etna is also having its moments lately...
I love Sinabungs, but they are so fattening. It's the only good food in airports.
Wow that pic on the top is amazing!
Even the earth's volcanoes are mad at Obama.
I'm sorry but this whole "plate tectonics" bullshit is just getting outta hand!
These moving plates are just too dangerous! Can't the government do something?
I expect to see my house on one of Chip's posts one day.
Chip:
Great pictures! Thanks!
But, realize, if this goes on too long, we can all kiss our plans for global warming goodbye.
Is this near Krakatoa "East of Java"?
The Countryside looks lovely, though I can just feel the heat and humidity.
