Adios GOP

Whep.....Trump signed the gigantic spending bill that gave everything to the Democrats and basically pissed all over his voters.

I would like to think that there is a "long game" somewhere in this move today.  Even if Trump manages to pull out of this, the GOP is doomed and we may as well get used to a Socialist/Democrat controlled country.

You want to see the future of the United States?  Check out California for a preview.

We have been done done done with the GOP in general for some time now and do/did have hopes that a different approach would break the same old same old screw the voters attitude in the DC Swamp.  Now that it looks like Trump has rolled over like a whipped puppy and pissed his own belly as well as the voters,  in order to get a big increase in military spending ....to Hell with the rest of the agenda, to Hell with Immigration Control, to Hell with the voters who put their faith in a change....well all I can say is RIP GOP. Adios.

This November will be the first time in 30 years that I have decided not to vote.   For anyone or anything. What is the point?

Actually, since I live in California, there IS no point in voting.

The Swamp has won.  I'm old. I can take it.  Sorry kids and grandkids.  You are on your own.

Inexplicable to me that Trump didn't veto. Sad day.

Not inexplicable. Maybe ol' "deficits don't matter" Cheney called him at the last minute.

Cruz, who voted against the bill, is up here in Texas. I might still vote. I haven't voted for Cornyn for awhile now.

Markets down 1400 for the week. I'm not sure Chump will have that roaring economy to help him in 2020. The budget will keep the swamp full until then, unless you believe the 6 months thing like Chump does.

DBQ, what good would have come from a veto?

Dust Bunny Queen said...

Rabel: They would have done a continuing resolution as always so the government wouldn't "shut down". A few days without a "budget" which this isn't a true budegt as it has a 6 month expiration date. They have to do this all over again in 6 months!!!!

A veto would show that Trump is actually serious about his promises to cut spending, to fund the border wall, to increase immigration control and to stand up to the Swamp Critters.

Yes. The military would not have gotten the increase in budget in THIS particular Omnibus Frankenstein bill. It would be a shame to put that off, but I believe that there would be an emergency bill put forward to fund the military. If the Dems were to fight that the optics would be bad.

By pointing out that the DACA recipients were not being taken care of and being purposely left out by the Dems and vetoing the bill until CONGRESS comes up with a legal solution Trump will gain some traction with those DACA supporters.

The gain would be that 1. he doesn't terminally piss off his supporters. 2. May gain some support from DACA people because HE seems to be the only one trying to get something done. and 3. Shows that Trump has some BALLS to stand up to the Dims, the GOPe and the Deep State.

The world will not come to an end if the government "shuts down" for a brief time. In fact, it might be good because we can see what is really needed and what should ultimately be cut.

My thought was, after bringing up a veto, he was told it would be easily overridden. After all, this is about the only bipartisan thing Congress has done in a long time.

I'm also wondering if the numbers are such that a bloodbath this fall is going to be a lulu.

We may all have our theories. The eminent Mr Surber has a couple of thoughts on this as well.

One comment over there struck me This is not a budget, only a continuing resolution until Sept 18. He can spend the money or not, this whole thing is mute. So a lot of people may be fulminating for a lot of nothing.

Um, the markets are down because Trump wanted the country to stop being Red China's patsy and the Blanche DuBois of Wall Street got the vapors; and the news about FB data sharing sent people into a tailspin.

FB will not wreck the economy and there won't be a trade war.

Chump, indeed. A lot of sunshine patriots and summer soldiers were saying the same about DACA and the Norks 2 months ago.

And a veto really doesn't show much unless it can be sustained. A lot of people are swooning over the fact Trump didn't go for an empty gesture. Trump seems to go for stuff that works and I have to go with Rabel over a 2 week propaganda circus.

YMMV

PS Keep in mind this resolution expires less than 2 months before the election.

You want to make a stand, that's the time to do it.

And a point I made in oopsy's other post, a lot of people were saying it was over when Roberts wouldn't kill ZippyCare outright and yet here it's being gutted as we speak.

As I kept saying 2 years ago, some people give up awfully easily.

Your thoughts aren't worth the $.02. There weren't even close to enough votes in the House to override the veto. I would say try rationalizing again, but you do...

the markets are down because Trump

That part is correct, it dropped another 300 points after he signed the legislation.

Chump, indeed.

Right. Cruz voted against the Omnibus, but Lyin' Chump signed the legislation that went against his campaign promises. I'm willing to stand behind the primary decisions until the party decides to abandon their promises. Chump is just another GOP Establishment Republican now; saying one thing for voters and governing like a Democrat.

Keep in mind this resolution expires less than 2 months before the election.

Only the parts that matter to Conservatives. National Endowment for the Arts and Corporation for Public Broadcasting, etc. are funded (with increases!) through the rest of Chumps 4 year term. Those things are no longer bargaining chips. Democrats and their GOP Establishment buddies took their weak cards off the table until the 2020 election.

You want to make a stand, that's the time to do it.

Why, because always standing is too hard? If the job is too hard, just go home.

PS Trump had the support of his base, the people who put him in office, to veto this bill. The loudest media voices that speak for his base were telling him to veto this bill. He knew the GOP didn't care if he was President, and he knew his base didn't care what the GOP thinks. His support was for veto.

Yet Chump signed the bill.

Now Chump let down his base. We are all Chumpers now.

Trying to spin this as a "no win" situation just tells everyone you are weak, and they can roll you again in the future. And if you don't think so, you might note that Chump has never failed to sign any legislation Congress has sent him. That's the behavior of a lap dog.

It's too late. It's over. It might take another hundred years, or two, but the American experiment with self government and individual freedom will be done. Too much of the world hates a winner. Besides, after the heat death of the planet none of this will matter. So, step back, enjoy life, love those around you, and don't forget to tell them so.

Hmmmm...Trump signs a shit bill and the markets tanked. Now, that might be a coincidence or it might be a sign that smart people see this as a very bad, long-term move. I'm disappointed, but certainly not surprised. Trump is a big-government, big-spender guy. He's had some bright moments (Neil Gorsuch is probably the brightest), but burying us further in debt and handing the Dems a basketful of goodies will have consequences in the next two elections. Maybe I'm missing the long game like DBQ said, but it's pretty hard to find the pony in this pile of shit.

I've said it for years, Dems and Repubs are two sides of the same filthy coin. They argue about how to spend our money, but agree on seizing it. And, they agree on about 95% of the expenditures; they pretend to be principled while bargaining away the remaining 5%.

Yes. Obviously. We do make choices and there are always always consequences in every action we take. You can hope than you are able to foresee the consequences to come, and choose the actions that will give you the best outcome. Sometimes the best outcome isn't what you desired. Sometimes it is honey and roses. Sometimes it hurts and is destructive.

However, if you throw away your principles in the process of making choices you have betrayed yourself and the people who depended on you to make those choices. If you are making choices for OTHER people, millions of other people, you must hold yourself to the highest standard, include their standards, and pray to God that you are making the right choices.

I wouldn't be Trump for all the money in the world.

The Dem "no" voters would have switched to "yes" to give a defeat to Trump. I don't see any reason to believe there would have been a corresponding switch on the Rep side just to support Trump.

It is very hard for Trump to be Trump. To be true to his campaign promises. The entire weight of both the Democratic and Republican party are against him. This crooked deal was cooked up by the Republican leaders. Still and all he should have vetoed it. He listened to his globalist advisers like Kelly and was put in a corner. The only time he acts as he was elected to act is when he does things spontaneously as he did with the tariff announcements or the call to Putin. His true loyalists have all been defenestrated. Bannon. Schiller. Corey. Hope Hicks. One by one they have been picked off until he is almost alone.

Donald Trump has made a mistake here. A big one. But he can come back. He has to bring back his own people if he wants to succeed. Otherwise he will be emasculated and destroyed. It is up to him to do it. Bluster is not enough. Concrete action is called for now and in the future.

Trooper York said...

Even Donald Jr has been naturalized by the divorce furor. He has to take a step back and clears the field for Ivana and the corrupt Kushner. The globalists are ascendant.

The appointment of Bolton is another bad sign. Another neocon who never saw a war he didn't like.

Now that they are promoting a war with Russia who knows where it will end.

Leland said...

But he can come back.

I believe that is possible, but he won't if he and the GOP is allowed to pretend this is anything but the wrong thing to have done. Trump likes to persuade using labeling catch phrases. Ok then; Chump! Show us you're leader and veto crap that Congress sends you.

Until that happens, I also believe this: Otherwise he will be emasculated and destroyed.

Oh, and agree Troop about Bolton.

I did not do that. And, years ago, I called out how bad the notion was that state races, and--God knows!--local races ought become nationalized. I got beat up on account of that.

ALSO, since I've been aware of Trump and how he's operated since I was just a scant year or so older than my own son who is now verging on age 18.

DBQ, what you just said is that you wouldn't be Trump for all of the money in the world.
