When the sun starts to rise in the winter, for whatever reason, the temp falls. Now -20º. Even with the wood burner going, the propane fed furnace just started up. Baby, it's cold outside.
The temperature has been rather changeable around here - Friday, after the sun set it kept getting warmer - 65, then 67, and by Saturday it got to 71. Now it is just above freezing and that 40 degree swing puts a hurtin' on a fellow. I have work to do and I wish I had a heat source in my shop, but since it will be above 40, eventually, today, I will work, not complain and be thankful that it is above freezing.
Well, I can't compare to AllenS' horrific temperature but it was 11 degrees here in upstate NY at sunrise and blue sky! Which is all that counts to me. Even a partially blue sky and all is well. Plus, I read that Erie. PA got 34 inches of snow! The fact that someone else is getting clobbered and I'm not (so far) adds to the good mood.
I just got back from my walk. the temp was -9 but little wind. I like pushing the envelope, walking in extreme weather. If it were windy @ this temp I would walk on my treadmill. We have become a country of Nervous Nellie's. TV news/weather sells fear. I was the only person out walking. Normally I would see 50-100 people running, walking, strolling w/ their dog. If a real crisis hits us where we need to be tough like the Depression, WW2 folks, we are FUCKED!
I clicked on the Old Crow video and my daughter shocked me by singing along. We must have done something right. 20s here in the western NC mountains this morning, hoping to hit 50 in the next hour or so. When I fled the Piedmont yesterday, the temp was in the 30s. Like Sixty said, when I arrived Saturday night, it was still above the 60 mark. It can be a wild ride with temperatures in the South.

Cheeseheads, Gophers, used to take pride in weathering bitter cold. That is no more.

What was the purpose of the large breasted woman looking menacingly at the camera sitting down swaying back and forth?
You are correct.
