You mentioned Hendrix in a comment in the previous post and I didn't get to see him, ever. He played at Merriweather Post Pavilion and my friends saw him there. I was living in Woodstock N.Y. at the time, so I missed that gig. I came back to Maryland and I saw The Who play at Merriweather. They had some Who-clone band open for them - you know, bass, guitar, drums and a singer. Yep, it was The Zep. They weren't exactly my cup of tea, but you know how opening acts are.
The next time I missed seeing Hendrix was when we left Woodstock the festival prior to his performance there. Bad timing, again.
But back to his gig at Merriweather - my friends told the story of a thunderstorm rolling through the area while he was on stage and they claim that he did a call and response with the thunder. Seems plausible, but then again, I didn't see it so I will not attest to the veracity of that statement.
It's nice to see the actual hall where the drums were recorded so nicely - nothing beats natural ambiance when it comes to making good music.

I can imagine governor Hedy Grange saying "That's Hedley Grange!"
Hendrix was one of few military veteran rock n' roll stars.
