Burly Chairs

I saw these seats in a hotel lobby near Santa Barbara and I had to ask Sixty about them:

Surely they were turned on a lathe.  Staff at the hotel didn't know about them.

Those are interesting - I know there are redwood burls available in CA that are large enough to turn spheres that big, and there are several prominent wood turners who have lathes large enough to turn work that massive, but it would be nice to know some more specifics about those particular pieces - were they signed, what kind of wood was used, and so on.

I will say this much - you won't see me doing that kind of work - I have neither the lathe nor the burls to produce such things.

Or are they meteorites? I think they are meteorites. That's the simplest answer. Space aliens might be involved.

Are we talking about Burl Ives?

Men!!! Did you touch them or better yet sit in one or two of them, chickelit? How did they feel? What did you enjoy about them from a sensory perspective? Was there one you were more drawn to than the other?

They are very unusual, eye catching, and to my way seeing, inviting!

Should a man sit in one of those chairs if they're drinking beer?

Allen, they are flat on the bottom. The “seat” part reminded me of an old fashioned tractor seat — shaped for farmer butt.

The “seat” part reminded me... ARRRRGGGG Again!!!

Did you sit on it, or view it from afar and speculate?
