Box pop-up card

Matthew Reinhart demonstrates a basic box mechanism upon which he builds additional content.

Then decorates the content to convey meaning.

He doesn't mention but he does show the box is based on the "V" mechanism.  The V crosses the main fold evenly 45° on each side but it doesn't need to. While asymmetrically with one side longer than the other, for a rectangular box. Everything else is powered by that first V, the remaining 2 sides of the box, the top, and two additional incomplete boxes.

Matthew does this all the time elsewhere quite cleverly, any of the additional inside corners of the pink and green incomplete boxes can be used for another folded 90° fan shape attachment, such as Matthew started with to establish the original V position. A small folded fan that opens inside the box corner when the card is opened, with an arm attached to one side of the tiny fan shape, to add content, such as something that could be inside the boxes when closed and swings out when opened. Just drawn on paper and attached to the arm, attached to the folded fan, attached to the corner of the box attached to the original box, attached to the original V mechanism. All the additions are powered by the original V. Actually, they're powered by you opening the card that holds the original V.

Behold, the power of you.

Elementary, my dear Matthew.

Now make a kitty come out of the pink box.

No, wait, make a kitty come out of one box and a puppy come out of the other.

No, wait, wait, make a kitty and puppy come out of a box and make a snake coil out of the big one.

No, wait, wait, wait. Make a kitty and puppy and and mouse come out of a box and make a snake coil out and eat the mouse.

Matthew: "I think you're on to something there, Mr. Demented."
