William Barr chosen by President Trump to replace Jeff Sessions

Our first clue Barr is a good choice is Democrats screaming bloody murder over the selection.

The breakdown on Breitbart by John Binder is choppy, basically giving Barr's history in short paragraphs. That makes it easy to summarize.

* Trump said Barr was his first choice since the beginning to replace Sessions. Both men favor enforcement of immigration policy.

* Barr was attorney general for George H.W. Bush between 1991 and 1993. He was hard on crime regarding immigration and implemented reforms to reduce illegal immigration.

* Back then, immigration enforcement was managed by INS, part of DOJ. Previous to that it was part of Department of Labor and after that its absorbed by DHS.

* At peak border crossings Barr announced a slew of initiatives; hired 300 U.S. Border Patrol agents, 200 additional INS investigators, 150 of those tasked with locating and deporting illegals. the remaining 50 were assigned to pursue U.S. companies hiring illegal aliens.

* Barr created the National Criminal Alien Tracking Center. $150 million in INS funding.

* Barr requested increased funding for detention center and he demanded millions in new funding for personnel.

* Barr advocated for more treaties between U.S. and foreign countries to deport convicted illegal aliens. Barr deplored the high number of illegal aliens in U.S. prisons.

 * Barr said the issue should be dealt with in 4 ways:
    1) stop illegal immigration
    2) speed up deportations from U.S. prisons
    3) speed up deportations of illegals without a criminal record and increase fees of illegal re-entry
    4) send illegals in prison back to their native counties to finish their prison sentences there

* Barr gave a speech about tough penalties for illegal immigration.
    1) criminal illegal aliens will be the first to go
    2) people who enter legally who commit a crime will be deported
    3) will not tolerate illegals who prey on American people.

* Most of Barr's attempted reforms overlap with Session's goals.

* Sessions made sweeping reforms at the border.
    1) tightened asylum laws
    2) advocated for border wall
    3) going after sanctuary cities

* Barr praised Session's reforms.

* Sessions set four goals
    1) reduce the rates of murder
    2) reduce violent crime generally
    3) reduce opioid prescription fraud
    4) reduce drug overdose deaths.

* Barr wrote, "Sessions achieved all four."

* Barr wrote, "Sessions attacked rampant illegality that riddled our immigration system and broke the record for prosecution of illegal-entry cases and increased by 38% the prosecution of deported immigrants who reentered.

End Breitbart summary.

So now. Trump wins. If Congress blocks confirming William Barr then Trump has Matthew Whitaker  indefinitely.
