Decades of well-earned fame. How many of the preening celebutards out there can say that? Huge catalog of hits with The Heartbreakers and those Wilburys and solo. Great live show. The great pop musicians are dying off and what do we have to replace them?
Hillarity tweeted ”Our grief isn’t enough. We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA, and work together to try to stop this from happening again,” and “Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get.”
Of course the drunken old crone may have a ghost tweeter cranking them out when she's passed out.
The internet has changed the way music is marketed so the good stuff that exists (maybe) doesn't get into popular rotation and the artist is not promoted. Also the big producers of the 60s/70s/80s who in many instances were the creative brokers, got bought out by risk-averse corporations. Now everything is designed by committee and overproduced so there's a lack of authenticity. Also, visual branding/looks is prioritized over actual talent (which can be produced by committee and by artificial means). For a little while, you could be objectively unattractive and still be a rock star so long as you brought the talent and the charisma.

Well, that was sudden. And a bit scary - we were born the same year. I better get to work...
I'm with you. He is only six years older than me
When your contemporaries are dropping like flies you start to think.
I remember when I first saw him live. I went out and got his album at J&R Music world.
What a different time.
Just got a phone news flash. Tom petty is dead.
66 years old
Wow. Funny how fast Wiki gets updated. Free Fallin' is a great song and music video.

Now tmz is saying petty is not dead.
Seriously?
I mean Tom Petty is a good musician but he ain't no Louie Parma. Let alone Sinatra or Dean Martin or Ella Fitzgerald.
Rock is as dead as the NFL.
Louie Prima.
Posting on I Phone sucks
New pop stars come along every day.
We are just too old to appreciate them.
Tom Petty is the Al Martino of his time.
Maybe Englebert Humperdinck at best.
They are allowing Tom to free fall.

lol - ampersand.
I'm totally prepared to lose any member of the Rolling Stones.
Not ready to see Tom Petty go. Please don't die.
Nooooo. I love the Stones!
I don't want anyone to die. I'm just prepared... emotionally. Come on - Kieth's appearance - you know you've been prepared as well. for decades.
True.
The Traveling Wilburys almost have the band back together...
Dylan and Lynne are going, whoaaaaaaa!
I love the Traveling Wilburys. Best band ever!
