She is not in the Fortune Five Hundred but she got a lot more money than she is worth. A former news bunny she cashed in before the rush of Me Tooism hit the courts. Now she is sitting pretty and keeping quiet.
She don't look like she's worth 32 million in harassment. I wonder who was responsible for the payout, O'Reilly, Fox or some insurance company? I just watched an old Rumpole of the Bailey episode. A woman sues a newspaper for libel. Turns out the woman and the libelous newspaper man were in in a relationship and in cahoots tho cheat the insurance company.
If Lis Weihl really got $32 million, trust me, she had the Big Mic nailed down with proof. No way would an insurer pay that out without a lot of back up.
Remember, nobody's gone to court over Weinstein, so all that's unproven and the court cases against Cosby have mostly gone his way.
A lot of times pointing the finger convicts the guy (or girl) simply because the media never questions the allegations. That's what always saved Willie; the media always either directed attention elsewhere (Wag The Dog, anyone?) or went after the accuser(s).
I think the back story behind the $32 million is probably more prurient and interesting than any of the sex involved. That's an obscene amount of money.......I enjoy sex scandals. The O'Reilly scandal has its points of interest, but the actual sex is second tier. It's the money involved that's salacious....,,.Harvey Weinstein is the gold standard of sex scandals. Weird sex acts with famous actresses--every single one of them.
I think the Charley Sheen scandal remains the most enviable. Charley's m.o. showed a unity of design and purpose that was breathtaking in its simplicity and effective delivery of pleasure. Bummer about the AIDS thing, but he looked like he was having a good time. Weinstein, O'Reilly, Weiner--they all look like they're acting out some nervous tic rather than libidinal urges.
I have worked both sides of sexual harassment cases. Some are horseshit, many are not, some are despicable abuse. O'Reilly fits the profile of a sexual harassment shitbird. If anyone thinks $32 million is a nuisance settlement then they are retarded.
As Evi alluded, Fox's insurer is on the hook for a capped amount enumerated in the policy. The insurance company is also on the hook to hire an attorney to defend the lawsuit.
If that settlement is true, part of it may be timing. Right place at right time, with O'Reilly not wanting to screw up his job negotiations. But $32 million is a lot of money for something like this.
I'm sure O'Reilly will be on the hook for some of the $32 million. How many insurers would write a policy with a $32 million Lawsuit Cap?
This $32 million is on top of all the lawsuits ($10 million?) FOX had to settle based on O'Reilly's sexual harrassment at work.
There's something wrong with Billo. Notice how nobody is coming to his defense? Rush, Hannity, Levin, Beck, Ingraham, Coulter, etc? That's because O'Reilly never defended anyone on the Right, unless it allowed him to be the center of attention.

Had to dig around for the name, but I remembered the face instantly.
Lis Wiehl, a lawyer. I guess she figured she could wait until her contract was up.
She still did not score as much as Me-Again Kelly, but we are spared from seeing her dance for it.

Maybe.

ed, not $32 million. You get called on amounts like that.
And yes, there have been lawsuits over Weinstein. They all settled out of court, for chump change compared to Lis's reported settlement.
And Ampersand, that is an excellent Rumpole of the Bailey.
