Shirley Manson really did capture the mindset of so many little girly shits out there with this one and Stupid Girl. Good thing Butch Vig's crew picked up on her.
You know, Lem, you're putting up some really good music. Stuff I'd not look at otherwise. I've had Forbidden Love rolling through mi mente for days so I turn it on in Amazon Music. And that made me look at the other ones rated high on that album. They do a very nice mix between the song before and after Forbidden Love. The whole album is good. Then that made me look back at earlier Madonna and I played an earlier tune and became instantly sad.
Odd thing to happen because I've never been that interested in her music. I had to really think on that one. What caused the instant sadness? I cleared my mind to get at it as the music played, the seemed simple compared to the later stuff, the material girl album, the first song on that, I pictured an apartment and was spooked by the feel of being there. I suddenly had the feeling of the apartment and of a lively and packed party of young people in there. I know the location of the actual building. I knew a young person for only a few months, he told me liked this music a lot. He loved it, actually. I didn't see why. Then within months of meeting he died just like that. I had just met his friends and they all behaved toward me as if I should have known. As if I should have been more of a help to the kid in trouble. The whole little mini social circle dissolved instantly. And I guess I've been a bit spooked by that ever since.
I forgot to mention, the thing that's unfortunate is it doesn't translate well.
Forbidden love is a fairly romantic seeming phrase and should look it, but it doesn't.
Forbid, forbidden, taboo, nono, illegal, break law, all that forms an idea cloud bearing on a legal document held up like and indian says, "how" and the other hand performs some letter on upon it for some document-type word. In this case an "L" slapped against the palm. The same thing drawn down the palm instead of slapped against the palm is "law." It's a slap-happy sign, not a romantic sign.
Likewise, "love" is two hands crossed at the heart, a natural sign, it looks like a pharaoh death pose except hands open not fists.
Law SMACK, pharaoh death pose, repeated over and over, it's ugly.
