So much concern about rampant drug abuse, overprescription, and the effects of readily available drugs on the population in the mainstream media and from the government. (But I repeat myself.)
If only they would legalize drugs, then everything would be great! Legalize it, y'all! That's the answer! It'll be fine, no worries.
Meanwhile, the dangers of wicked, wicked guns and evil car crashes are virtually ignored. It's just shocking, I tells ya, shocking and saddening. HOW MANY INNOCENTS MUST DIE????!!?? If we can save JUST ONE LIFE, it'll be worth it. banbanbanbanbanbanbanbanbanbanbanbanban.
People are dying from drug overdoses because they are so stressed out by all the shit we have to worry about today. I thought all our advances would make life easier, longer, safer, more enjoyable. It turns out that all those advances just gives us more shit to worry about, more time to worry about it, less real issue to distract us from our worry, and now with goddamned internet, we have more busybodies dedicating their lives to telling us the latest new worry. It would be so embarrassing to be the last person to worry about the latest threat from crack smoking honey badgers or suicide bomber pigeons, or how walking in the rain causes cancer.
Where are my damned drugs, and my car keys, and my gun. I'm going for ride. I'm quite concerned about tomorrow. Fridays are terrible on your liver.
We just need to start wearing seat belts and helmets when we do drugs. Maybe a background check and a 10 day waiting period before the pharmacist can give you the pain meds.
You can drive responsibly an still get killed in a car crash. You can own a gun responsibly and still get shot. But if you die from drugs, then you just aren't any good at it. Pick another form of recreation like hang gliding, or street racing.

Ban drugs. This needless and senseless slaughter must be stopped. We have to do something.
Oh wait.

The more we cure disease, the more we will die from things we choose. As Martha Stewart would say: "It's a good thing."
At the hands of other people?
If you don't worry about the doomsday meteor all day every day, then you're just a piker at this worry stuff.
