The Qualm Before The Storm

I watched the Democratic debate tonight -- twice actually. First, streaming it online while following my Twitter feed and the second time on TV with my family who could only get together two hours after it happened. As I remarked on Twitter, there isn't a single bit of policy difference between Hillary and Mr. Obama. Not one. I made this point to my wife numerous times. She said it's just political, that Hillary is part of a machine and has to play that role (implying that she'll change). I said that was dishonest and why should I trust that tacit promise?

I came away from the debate respecting Sander's integrity and disrespecting O'Mallarky. He really is the flesh and blood character in "The Wire."

The candidates all blew it on national security. Hillary's refusal to use the term "radical Islam" betrayed (once again) her absolute fidelity to the party line and she did a horrible job of conveying what she actually thought. Why should I second guess her? I can only conclude that she has hates calling a spade a spade. She has qualms about the gathering storm.

Hillary never answered the reporter's first question about ISIS -- even after being reminded that she hadn't: How did Obama so misjudge ISIS and why should we trust your judgement?

She is still inseparable from Obama; she is still unworthy of reelection. To paraphrase vbspurs, she is gambling on people being OK with Obama's foreign policy.

I don't think it's so much personality as it is ideology on foreign policy that binds them.

Both are pure quill Ivy League Leftists and have absorbed the indoctrination well. As most of us remember, Hillary was in the Choom Gang cabinet to keep her where she could be surveilled and had no real authority (that went to various czars).

BTW those who like The Donald need to be careful of the Al-Reuters polls which have him riding high. They're based on a sample of only 500, which is probably too small.

I don't doubt his hardline approach will give him a bump in light of Paris, but a little circumspection never killed anybody

Any other takeaways from the "debate"? I tuned in when Hillary was parsing terrorist terminology and seemed to settle on "radical jihadists" as being acceptable. But I could only stomach about 10 minutes of her voice. I've searched for other accounts of the debate this AM, but it seems not too many people bothered to watch.

O'Mallarky. There's a very good possibility that I'll be stealing that word.

Well said Chick. I too watched and towards the end concluded they were running for president of Venezuela with all the free stuff offers.

Good analysis, chick. I do think the "call a spade a spade" a bit passive-aggressive however. I only watched the first 30 minutes but as I said on another thread, I thought that lead questioner was righteous.

Hillary cares about power and money.

Democrat candidates won't say "Radical Islam".

Mainstream pro-democrat press won't say "Radical Islam".

Must be a coincidence.

Great line, Lem. We could be electing the next Hugo Chavez.

The noun "qualm" is an old word which had a much more sinister and deadly meaning. According to the OEDictionary of etymology, it has softened over time, much like the Democratic Party. As a verb, "to kill" (cf. quell) is rooted in the same word.

The truth - and I'm being dead serious - is that the only difference between Obama's reign and Hillary's coming reign is that in Obama's time in office we have been under the rule of male homosexuals and in Hillary's we will be under the rule of lesbians.

I have found a tell, like I do when I am investigating someone, reading body or verbal language. If someone wants to suck up to the Obama Administration, they use ISIL. If they want to be independent, or at least appear so, they use ISIS. All the Dem candidates used ISIS last night. Most reporters use ISIS, except for MSNBC people and little Georgy on ABC. He uses ISIL. It's fun, listen and find the cult followers.

IIRC O'Malley used ISIL at least once.

There is little difference between the Bushes, the Obamas, and the Clintons. They're all neoliberals which is code for whipping the world into shape for maximal efficiency and profit.

I've puzzled over why the insistent usage of ISIL by Obama. It seems to me that ISIL people want to call attention to a broader swath of terrorized territory; "Levant" is bigger than "Syria." Why not go bigger: Islamic State In Middle East ISIM or better: ISM.

College students in search of a safe space could do worst than hang around the Democratic debate. They will hear nothing to offend their sensibilities. Warm milk for the ears.

Gathering?

Where have you been for the last 20 years?

Dude, it's here.

Obama ISIL (He's leader dontchaknow)
everyone else ISIS
Kerry Daesh (talk about signaling)

Couldn't find the debate in time. Too bad for me, I lose.

I read it was so boring that CBS shut it off 7 minutes early. I also read and saw that Hillary has become defensive and shrill and nagging-sounding. The bit that I've seen repeatedly is both. She must have delivered a shrill moment for her supporters who appreciate that. My twitter feed went foul and inane.

I've also read about her wigs. And that got me thinking about the other women in Congress. The first time I noticed I thought, hey that lady's hair is ace." And then on second noticing, hey, there's that exact same ace hair again. Oh wait. The whole thing's a wig. Imagine wearing the same elaborate wig every day. The same warm hat every day. The exact same skank-ass hat every single livelong working day. And that thought gives me tremendous respect for the women who don't play that, and the men too, who just own it. Own what happens to them physically. They own it and move on without further disruption, like giving up smoking or whatever other unhelpful habit.

chick, The ISIL usage by Obama is about elitism and control. We are smarter than you, and it's ISIL, not ISIS. It's a sanctimonious professor talking to his students, like somewhere else we all know.

deborah, I only watched the first 30 minutes and I know Bernie And Rodham used ISIS. If the shanty Irishman used ISIS, it was not only trying to be an Obama cultist, but a weak attempt to show how he's different from the 2 older people on stage, wearing Depends. This is what our culture, both political and otherwise, has become. It's always about control.

Nick, I came across a transcript, he did say ISIL. He was really good last night, I thought. Came out swinging at Clinton.

He countered her free state universities and community colleges with how he, in his state, had contained costs. Other good stuff where he made her look less fiscally aware, I thought.

deborah said...

Not a fab night for her, but I understand it doesn't matter.

ricpic said...

I thought when Hillary and Huma queef in unison, that's a qualm? No?

ndspinelli said...

"Came out swinging." Yeah, like a fucking girl. A pansy Irishman. All Irish can do is drink and fight. I hope the fucker can @ least hold his Bushmill. He looks more like a chardonnay, girly man. I bet he throws like a girl, too.

lol all I know is she looked grave as he attacked.

O'More Marlarky has to be the worst Democrat ever. Bragging about how much he loves immigration and illegals. Proud he was the first one, to demand we take 100,000 (or was it 1 million?) Syrian Refugees. He's got a big heart, don't y'know.

Sanders - the complete left-wing phony. Bleeds for the American worker - but supports Wall street in its desire for open borders and cheap labor. Also, is afraid that the Paris Attack will cause a "backlash" against POC's.

The whole thing, (I just skimmed the transcript) was a Potemkin debate. None, of these clowns desire to take on Hillary! - why should they? They don't really disagree with her on anything.

If I were a sensitive pansy-man, I would have found Hillary's "60% are women " comment mildly offensive. It'd be like BHO saying guess what -- most black people vote for me.

Why celebrate any sort of tribalism? I continue to wish her political ill.
