But back to the subject, ignoring the messenger, I think I had a Brazil nut this century, but it's been a while. And seeing those locals sweeping them up on that "factory" floor I might continue to eschew them.
Amazing, depressing, disturbing. So cool they come in multiples out of the husk(?). My fave nuts are filberts. Never got the hype about macadamias. Cashews I dislike pretty much. I knew you were dying to know.

That was interesting,heavily shelled nuts in a thick outer shell. I didn't know that. I was confused about them shelling the nuts until the end when he showed them in a mixed can of nuts , something I've never purchased.
Last spring I made some Chex mix using my mom’s old recipe from the 1960’s. The stuff was a hit but for one aspect. I got talking to my BIL about his mom’s Chex mix and he asked me why there were no Brazil nuts in the mix. My answer was that I has just used salted mixed nuts in a can from the grocery store. In the 1960s and 70s, mixed nuts still had a few Brazil nuts. Not any more. So I went to Trader Joe’s and got me a bag of salted Brazil nuts. I made another batch of Chex mix. Perfect!
My mom always used regular peanuts. I made some about 20 years ago when it was 20 years out of fashion, to take to a church supper. Nobody commented. My daughter sure liked it though, which surprised me when she brought some time later.

Yes, and they were often left over at the end. We stopped making Chex Mix three years ago when carbs and gluten became an issue for us. Up to that point, making it during the holiday season was a family affair using a quadrupled recipe from my mom from the 60's only (without the Brazil nuts). It always disappeared. We used a large blue enameled roasting pan for baking, turning the mix every 15 min for two hours.
I haven't had a Brazil nut this century yet, but recall opening some in the last century as part of a bag of mixed nuts my dad would bring home around Christmas. With our recent move, I let go of the silver metal nutcracker and pick that was in our family since the 50's and sat in my drawer unused for 30+ years.
