The early days of Aretha

She traveled to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and made her first million seller. The story is fascinating and this clip is part of a much longer movie:

The natural sevenths that she sings are unbelievable - she brought the church to popular music. Them good ol' boys in bibby overhauls made it happen.

What a story. Thanks Sixty. Listening to her never gets old.

And what a goodbye the world is giving her before she's even gone.

Perhaps the goodbye hasn't really begun yet but I can't help thinking it's coming. She touched too many people.

That is certainly true in my case, Dad B. We were fortunate to have her in our presence, making great music, for such a long time.

She owes it all to Spooner!

In some ways, that is true, ricpic. Rick Hall, too. The story of the Muscle Shoals studio is well worth watching just to hear Rick Hall talk about the time that he and Aretha's then husband each tried to throw each other off a 3rd floor balcony. Good times...

This is truth.

awesome. i hear more 4th intervals in her singing than 7ths in that. perhaps it's a minor 7th (2 x 4th) relative to the tonic or something. i'm not hearing any major 7th whatsoever.

Her voice is a knock out punch. Her voice hits you in the core and you don't know why.
One of a kind.

@Jonathan - you are probably correct. I hear natural sevenths as opposed to major 7ths, but I am deaf and what do I know? Only that Tretha moves me.
