We spent the weekend at the Show. No not the major leagues. The Gem Show.
The Gem Show is where we get the crystals and gems that are a big part of our inventory these days. It comes around twice or three times a year and we go to put in orders and make contacts and what not. It is a lot like the clothing shows we used to go to but with a lot less pressure. Less hard salesmanship. A much more enjoyable expedience all around.
You see you have to learn the properties and the worth of the various things you buy. As always you want to buy low and sell high. Business is pretty much all the same. Of course the people you deal with a little different. Instead of hard bitten hebes from the garment center you are dealing with guys like this:
The gems and crystals themselves are very beautiful. One in particular was my all time favorite:
We had a good time and the wife really enjoyed herself. I had fun too and it was time well spent. The best of all was when I found Sixty's birthstone:

How can this stuff have been going on so long and it never came to light?
I can't make out if this is all true or if some of it is McMartin school type of hysteria.

We have a gem show twice a year in town. You can always tell the attendees. It's crazy out there.

Those are very cool. There's a rock shop down in Canton that has the neatest stuff.
ampersand, The Catholic Church evolved into a haven for pedophile priests. It is pervasive, systemic and goes right to the top. I now think this Pope was elected to try and stem the tide. The Cardinals knew he would be the darling of the press and hoped that would be an insurance policy for when the shit hit the fan. It appears they were wrong. What I'm seeing now are the staunch defenders, who dug in their heels protecting the church, now realize they were duped.
I am feeling the new age vibe from here!
Come to Tucson, Troop. Largest Gem Show in the World. Impossible to see it all.

I went to the jade market in Taipei and learned that we're not the only ones with weird spiritual ideas about beautiful shiny rocks. I think it was probably cooked up originally to enhance value and it stuck because people wanted to believe that their particular shiny rock had magical powers. The jade market was pretty cool and there were a lot of very very pretty shiny rocks on display and turned into jewelry!
It's good to hear about you and Lisa having a good time, Trooper York. As for Sixty's birthstone, it looks more like a latter-life stone, similar in coloring to the wood he works.
