Pete Seeger (1919-2014) left a musical legacy: inventor of the Seeger longneck banjo and the author of a couple of catchy tunes. But his politics were atrocious and deserve to be mocked and scorned. It was he and his pious ilk who despised The Kingston Trio -- jealousy? Oh and Pete had no kind words for Israel.

I love that song. Not that version, so much, but that is a great song expressing a sometimes-necessary sentiment.
I didn't care so very much for Pete Seeger back when he had a bunch of radio hits with the Silver Bullet Band.
Not my cup of tea.
But I loved Van Morrison like nobody's business and I really liked Bruce Springsteen's first two albums so go figure.

Everyone knows that Bob Dylan idolized Woody Guthrie but do people know that Springsteen felt the same for Seeger? Tell me that isn't political, rather than musical.
Bat, really? Pete Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band? REALLY?
Tuuurn the paaaaaaaaaageyah.
An apologist for Stalin until about 5 years ago.
Took him 40 years after Stalin's death to figure out that Stalin was maybe a little overenthusiastic about the genocide.
Bull. Shit.
Totally disingenuous.
Yoda sez: Thinking of his legacy, he was.
So inconvenient when peoples' party insists on killing so many people.
Expect Billy Ayers will vomit up some similar half-assed regret right before he dies.
I binged the "apology". He was sorry for not seeing that Stalin was such a cruel misleader.
He wuz MISLED!

G'nite everbody.
Communist.
If I weren't a priest, I'd put a modifier in front of that.
But "communist" really says it all.
God have mercy on him, and me.
Oh, and by the way: I rather enjoy listening to the Red Army Chorus singing the Soviet Anthem, too.
Still communist.
Anna McGarrigle shows how the banjo is to be played.
While I'm at it, other nice Canadian singers
Jan Arden Sleepless (video sucks though)
Claire PelletierLa Caverne
Seeger sang @ the 2009 Inauguration. 'Nuff said.
Well, he sorta groaned anyway.
The banjo ought to be like the lute stop on the harpsichord, a contrast that works in.
God have mercy on him, and me.
Fortunately for all of us, God's mercy is greater than all of the evil in the world, or so I've been told.
Pete Seeger is now the warm-up act for The Inferno Lounge 3 a.m. show starring Stalin and His Omelets.
Don't tip the waitress; you don't have any money and she's gonna be here about 25000 years.
Some of his views were execrable, but he was loyal to them even when they were not popular, not even in a radical chic way. I give him some credit for that.....Other than bad politics,I never heard of any real scandals attached to his name. They say he was helpful and generous with younger people.. If that's so, give him credit for that also.....I was never a fan, but I did go to one of his concerts. At the end of the concert (which was cheap), they kept passing the hat around for a lot of weird causes so the concert wasn't such a bargain......I'm pretty sure Lillian Hellman and Jean Paul Sartre are in some low pit in hell, but Seeger has an arguable case before The Lord.
What a horrible song. Sorry, I had to skip around. Fake Religion - so liberal. Sometimes artists are just naive idiots, who sign on to some crazy political position because - y'know - they ain't rocket scientists. They create and feel, they don't study and think deep thoughts.
But Y'know when you support Stalin for 40 years, that ain't being naive, that's being evil.
