magic carpet

Want to take a ride in my flying saucer? Okay, let's turn the lights up bright as they go and freak out the people in Washington. Sound like a fun idea?

Soundtrack magic carpet ride. The sound works, already tested. The song has an odd grating non-musical start. Let's do both at once.

Whew.

The song's intro was supposed to be Hendrix-style distortion, man.

The term "Magic Carpet Ride" has a still-undetermined hippie folk etymology. The term appeared two years earlier in Paul Revere and the Raiders' "Kicks." That year, 1966, was, according to Hunter S, Thompson, "the real year of the hippie." People commonly connect the term to drugs, for example, LSD. I think that's far-fetched.

I speculated that Barbara Eden inspired the term "Magic Carpet Ride" in the mid-1960's. If Trooper were here he'd concur.

Oh. That's the sound my flying saucer makes when it warms up. I figured that's the sound his makes too. They're very old saucers. They operate on like Windows 2.0.
