That year, 1966, was, according to Hunter S, Thompson, "the real year of the hippie." People commonly connect the term to drugs, for example, LSD. I think that's far-fetched.
I speculated that Barbara Eden inspired the term "Magic Carpet Ride" in the mid-1960's. If Trooper were here he'd concur.
