The God-Emperor of the Cherry Blossom Throne has made his first mistake!
President Trump has announced that Reince Prebius will be his Chief of Staff. A big mistake. Yeah, yeah I know that he is an insider and close to Ryan so Trump can get his legislative stuff through. That's bullshit. Ryan is not going to cooperate. He is going to fight us every step of the way. He is a snake and he needs to be dealt with. We are going to have to steamroll him and marginalize him.
Trump was elected to drain the swamp. Reince and Ryan are two of the fattest muskrats wallowing in the muck. If Trump pushes term limits and his plan to stop Congressmen and his Administration officials from becoming lobbyists he will go a long way to reassuring his voters.
The one bright spot is that former Breitbart Head Steve Bannon was named as a Chief Advisor to the Throne. I guess it is a "Team of Rivals" bullshit move that most Presidents try. I think it is fine because Bannon will knife Reince before you know it and he will be out in six months.
Bannon is Trumps nod to his voters. We will see how this develops over time. I think Bannon will carry the polices I favor forward. I trust him in the fight. He fights dirty. He hates Ryan. Reince will never knew what hit him.
Trump needs to push his first 100 days agenda using Reince's so called relationship with Ryan. If Ryan balks at all then you cut Reince's throat and throw him over the side. Trump has no trouble doing this. He had three campaign managers after all. Corey when he needed a street fighter to watch his back while he demolished his rivals in the primary. Manafort when he had to calm the pussies at the convention and squelch the incipient rebellion. Then Kellyanne to bring it home. He will do the same with his administration. He has no problem firing people who don't produce.
But this is the first of many disappointments I will suffer during the reign of the God-Emperor of the Cherry Blossom Throne. I understand why he did it but I am sad that he did.
I just take solace in the thoughts of the rest of his army of faithful samurai.

Keep one thing in mind. Now it's that much easier to put one of his own in at RNC.
We know Kellyanne has a job, but I doubt that's it.
If you recall '80, Reagan had to put several Bush consiglieri in this Cabinet. this may be getting off cheap.
PS As of now, Ryan doesn't have the votes for Speaker.
It is still a mistake. But I have faith in Bannon. He will gut Reince. I hope they put Corey in at the RNC. That would be sweet. Heh.
A mistake! A mistake! Off with his head!
Wow, no honeymoon for this guy.
I'm not convinced it was a mistake.
Ugh. I just found out Charlie "Orange" Crist won a congressional seat as a Florida dem.
I don't know how anyone can vote for someone who changes their party affiliation just so they can run.
Conway should get the Rove/ValJar gig, Senior Advisor.
Bannon already got that.
She is either head of the RNC or she sets up her own shop and consults. I bet a bunch of people want to hire her now.
The more I read about Bannon, the more he sounds like a Sonny Corleone than a Michael one. Plus he probably bangs cocktail waitresses two at a time.
Troop, I think you should rethink this Nipponese series to one centered around a Don. It is your bailiwick.
oh, I didn't realize there was no distinction between Senior Advisor and Senior Strategic Advisor. IN that case, I agree that Trump made a mistake. perhaps a very big one.
I like to expand my horizons.
Plus it gives me the chance to post Japanese anime porn below the fold to drive Lem crazy.
Troop, Make Jap Anime Porn Great Again!
Hey we all need a hobby.
Plus I am deep into my mob books that I want to publish. They don't get a good reception here so I figure why not go in a different direction.
He needs someone to guard the gate from the nutcases who want to visit the Whitehouse now. We don't need a bunch bizarro world versions of Al Sharpton visiting every week. The office needs to have some seriousness and class returned.
Bannon would probably have to leave Breitbart temporarily if he worked in a CoS position. I doubt he wants to do that. Being "Chief Strategist" means you can help when needed but keep your day gig.
Thoroughly confused now. Obama has three "Senior Advisors". ValJars title doesn't include strategic anything.
Reince fell in line after Trump clinched the nomination. He's a good little soldier who will follow orders.
"Reince, you're fired!"
You have to hire him before you can utter that phrase...
I think that is going happen when Paul Ryan screws him. You know that is going to happen. Reince is there to ride herd on Ryan but it ain't gonna work. So that is when he gets fired.
I give it six months.

The full title is chief strategist and senior counselor. Sounds like Bannon's going to decide when Rinse gets to see the Man.
I think you were right the first time.

No, she has a job in the Administration. Unlike Pissy, The Donald is not afraid of strong, intelligent women.
A guess, mind you, but I think she'll be the one who gets the job of Devil's Advocate, the one who tells him, "That's a really bad idea and here's why...".
That may get her COS eventually.
"Keep your friends close but your enemies closer."
- One of the Don's boys.
I agree with Ace's take. Reince isn't keeping your enemies close. It is acknowledging what the #neverTrump'rs didn't. The opposition in the party isn't the enemy.
I'm no more interested in Trump going soft on his promises than Troop or Ed. But I do think the enemy is (for proper context) Islamic terrorist, progressive globablists, socialists, then Democrats, and then somewhere down the list, people in the party that won't get with the program. I'll hold off calling mistakes until Trump follows Bush (Mineta) and Obama (Gates) to holdover someone from the previous Administration in a cabinet level position.
If this were Kasich, then it would be a mistake.
I think Rinse will do what Rabel said, "Reince fell in line after Trump clinched the nomination. He's a good little soldier who will follow orders."
I'll hold my fire until we see.
Swamps are badly maligned for being too dry to paddle yet too wet to hike about, so you end up flying around in an airboat or poling a piroque or slapping a tiny l motor on a jon boat. For having too much mud and too many bugs to be a pleasant or useful environment. However *strikes professorial pose* you see, wetlands have several important functions and benefits and they do have value to society.
Let's start at the beginning. Swamps, marshes with trees, come in two varieties; salt water and fresh water. They behave as giant sponges acting as natural flood protectors soaking up extra water from floods and from storms.
Swamps also clean the water by the plant that grow within them, the roots of grasses, sedges, rushes, willows and trees absorb waterborne pollutants such as chemicals and poo and wee, pharmaceuticals such as discarded birth control pills and boner pills and hormone pills. Other unpleasant chemicals that tend to be heavy sink to the bottom where they get buried and broken down by anaerobic bacteria, at least they are removed from the water column.
Finally, swamps are fantastic habitat for both birds and fish and reptiles and amphibians, and quite a lot of mammal species too, only mentioning the many forms of exotic insect life found there, and all this makes swamps tremendously fun.
Draining swamps or diking them off comes with additional costs of maintenance and hazard. Floods still occur and storms still deliver extra water and that water must go somewhere, without swamps then often human habitation is damaged and destroyed.
(In Bossier City, their version of 7-11 convenience store, I forget the name, like Quickie Mart, or something similar, there was a stack of upside down metal boats outside the front door, flat bottomed, green metal, dozens right there, you'd buy one like you'd buy a Slurpie or a Twinkie or a Tasty-Cake. The kind of boat that the cartoon Pogo floated around in. You could go fishing in one. They don't have a bow, rather two sterns, nor a keel. And they stacked like Tupperware. It blew my mind. All those boats, so cheap, so available, so convenient. I wanted one. For the heck of it.)
Some people are falling into the trap of underestimating Trump, again. Bringing in Reinse to work for him is how he co-opts the RNC - not the other way around.
Shrek liked his swamp.
Rabel gets it. Prebus is and is not part of the insider group. I mean...he was when they put him in charge of the RNC and then he jumped ship (so to speak) when he saw that Trump was the candidate who could win. Prebus (because I keep forgetting how to spell Rinse, Reice, whatever) put his all into the Trump campaign despite the GOPe NeverTrump big wigs. He defied the establishment that wanted to withhold RNC money and support.
Now, whether Prebus can bridge that gap between the entitled insiders and President Trump and be effective remains to be seen.
Trump does need someone who can navigate the swamp while it is being drained.
If Prebus turns out to be ineffective or begins to shift again, I'm pretty sure that Trump will have no difficulty replacing him.
Hey Trooper...you can relate to this being a Western fan.
Think of Prebus as being one of those Indian guides in the Old West. Native who knows the lay of the land and who is willing to guide the strange palefaces through dangerous territory. Territory that was often held by enemy tribes of the Indian guide.
The good thing for Trump, as opposed to the Old West guys, is that there are a lot more willing guides available than there were back then if the first guide (Prebus) turns out to be unreliable.
Back then, if you were fired from your guiding job...it was rather permanent. I don't suggest that Trump go down that path....even though it would be cathartic for the rest of us. Don't want a bunch of Vince Foster's cluttering up the landscape.
@ Chip
Punt.
Not the action, the name of those boats.
Priebus is a smart choice, and although I don't like Bannon at all, he would be the right guy to fight the adversarial press that Trump will finally bring back. I think it's likely that Bannon gets fired before Priebus though. He will do things that just draw too much of a distraction for Trump as he gets serious about the business of governing the whole messy American public.
Bannon is best out of the limelight, a trusted steath advisor.
Priebus is a bit of a tool, but that does not mean he can't be useful.
"I keep forgetting how to spell Rinse, Reice, whatever"
I'm just gonna go with "RP" from now on.
DBQ if you want to put it in Western Terms then Reince is Ransome Stoddard. Bannon is Tom Doniphon. Only this time he is going to get the girl.
Never change bags never change.
To put it in psychological terms:
Reince is Trump's ego.
Bannon is Trump's id.
If Preibus doesn't perform, he's out. Everyone in the Trump camp know that this is a performance based president. Not the shill bureaucrat that past presidents have been. You think Trump is going to fall for the siren song of the Wisconsin Duo? Think again.
Reince is only there as long as Ryan plays ball. The minute Ryan balks and Reince doesn't control him then Reince is toast.
Trump showed you his style in the campaign. He had three campaign managers. Hillary had one. And he was a Mook.
That told the tale right there.
You mean Trump might actually say, You're fired!
