Then we must be vexed by a no-class American royal by marriage and whatever her stupid ass opinion is.
And the whole time you're thinking guinea pigs are more interesting.
Why do we even do this?
There we were camping out at a Colorado gold mine tucked way back there in the Colorado Rockies. I think in Pitkin county. The barracks was a tiny white house. The mine was closed up with logs and piles of ore rocks dug out of the mine, like the mine spewed its guts out and closed up the hole. The pile of gold ore and logs extended quite a way and you could actually see the gold flecks in the ore. It is not shiny. It's dull gold color and you can tell it will talk a lot of trouble to smash up the rocks to bits and smelt them to extract and concentrate the gold. You would get very little gold for a whole lot of trouble and I suppose that is why the mine is closed up. The gold is there, but not worth the trouble of extracting.
But that was in 1981.
Who know, maybe it's worth it now.
Below that was a beaver dam.
An actual beaver dam that you can walk across.
Above that is a creek where you can also pan gold.
Far above that and surrounding the whole place is tree line inside a bowl where in the distance you can see longhorn sheep.
And nearby marmots and crows and bluebirds and hummingbirds.
What's not to like?
So why then was everyone wrapped up in Prince Charles and Lady D's wedding?
It was all they were talking about.
And I'm all, "what's wrong with you people? You're AMERICANS! This should offend you not interest you. Why aren't you disgusted?"
Everyone of the camper-outers was older than I was and they were all pissing me off with their endless chatter about British pomp and circumstance when there we were in the very model of what Colorado was about. We were placed into nature itself and living Colorado history, making unique discoveries each hour, and their minds were elsewhere the whole time.
I still cannot get over that. And my bad attitude about British royalty didn't affect them one bit. I could not turn their minds away from British royalty.
They were the type who make a party of watching the Oscars.

As someone who grew up where parts of the Revolutionary War were fought I have the utmost respect for those good men who fought to free us from those inbred freaks. Eff royalty, they are the scum of the earth.
What I am trying to say in my best Deadwood way is I agree with you, Chip. We are Americans.
People who are easily impressed by social hierarchy are annoying.
People who are easily impressed by other peoples' social hierarchy are really annoying.
Just don't watch.
Some people really don't get we have been the class act since Antietam.
Hey, you gotta worship sump'n. And anyway, what does every girl want to grow up to be? You guessed it: a princess.
I enjoyed that. A little pomp and circumstance ain't a bad thing. Ritual. Nice.
Always a pleasure watching our first lady.
I'm an American as well. I got up early to watch the Royal Wedding on television and to this day am glad I did.
I watch all manner of odd videos posted here at Levity (or start watching them) hoping to find something unusual, outstanding, remarkable, excellent, odd, meaningful, beautiful or lovely in what I see. Sometimes I learn something I didn't know or gain a deeper understanding of history and the way life works, which is what happened when I watched the Royal Wedding and saw the loveliness presented along with the social gestures, heirarchy, constraints and strictures that are part of that set up and show.
Having the freedom and right to pursue joy and live life in a way that makes me happy, as long as I don't do anything illegal or violate the rights of others is a wonderful thing.
It allows me the opportunity watch a Royal Wedding or Donald Trump's Presidential Inauguration in privacy of my own home, or publicly declare my enjoyment or displeasure with one or both to others.
Stupid ass opinions are a dime a dozen. While I get that watching this isn't everyone's cup of tea, and seeing it may in fact bring up strong feelings of gratitude for those who sprang us from the trap by fighting for and declaring independence, how does hatred, seething and over the top reacting benefit anyone, other than to provide the means to engage in a different type of ongoing drama?
Trump carried off his end of things with dignity, Melania came through as beautiful and appropriate, and both of them standing there with their hands over their hearts (9:15)as the Star Spangled Banner was being played was one of those moments I appreciated seeing.
Why things needed to be done this way is another question but Trump definitely rose to the occasion. For him to be standing with the Red Coats lined up before him, hearing the national anthem played for him on behalf of the nation he leads sure must have been something. Regardless of how many God Save the Queens were played on my behalf, and how much bowing and deference was afforded me, I'd rather be him than her standing there knowing that flag was and still is waving over the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Well said, MamaM, and I agree. But I will never have anything for royalty in any country, whether my old home land of England or somewhere in the interior of Africa - they are all leeches. And in the words of Bogie, I hate leeches.
