Gun ownership by state

CBS News says the statistics are hard to pin down because the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record is not all-inclusive and some guns go unregistered. So instead, they're going the sampling route. A journal named Injury Prevention took a survey of 4,000 adults nationwide asking if they own firearms. Their findings were used to estimate gun ownership rates in each state.

The results on CBS News are displayed in slideshow format where each state is represented with a photograph of something related with guns, so it's fifty-one photographs of people and guns, guns guns, guns, guns, guns, policemen with guns, arrays confiscated guns, gun sales counters, gun customers, guns found by the body of murders, gun shows, ranchers, gun buybacks, women with guns, politicians looking at guns, seized guns, gun owners being certified at shooting, gun shops, gun rights activists, drugs and guns, children with guns, guns in court, gold plated guns, fashion shows with guns, people walking around with guns, guns on a woman's shoe, hunters, shooting ranges.

Idaho, 56.9%
Arkansas, 57.9%
Alaska, 61.7%

I had no idea the percentages of gun ownership is so high. Alaska is understandable, while Idaho is 56.9% (!) of adults own guns. And Arkansas is higher than that.

 It's blowing my mind.

I shot guns a couple of times. All here in Colorado. Other people's guns.

And I was with Gary Hennigan in Louisiana when he lost his brother's gun in the bayou at the end of their property. Gary plowed into an overhanging branch that spilled us out of our little green Pogo boat. You wouldn't think it possible, but it actually happened. That's where I leaned those lazy slow bayous are deep and their movement ineluctable. That was tremendously funny. Because morbidly obese Gary can hardly swim but he sure can scream. But I didn't even touch that gun. His brother actually took Gary back down there to show him where to look for it.

He would have needed a powerful magnate. YouTube [magnate fishing]

And how many of those are blacks and Latinos wanting some protection because the live in "underprivileged" areas?

Gun ownership by "State" is really quite deceiving. And surveys are even dumber. Ask a few people and then make their answers for everyone? That is why Hillary's poll numbers were so off.

First. I assume that number only covers legally REGISTERED guns and not all guns. Unregistered and unknown to the gubbmnit guns.....like that old shotgun or two that Grandpa gave you, the 22 in the corner as well as all the other types of illegal guns owned by people who can't or won't tell. Criminals aren't going to register their guns.

Second: by State includes the whole damned thing. So places like San Francisco will have lower numbers of people owning guns. If you separated out the rural areas from the urban areas you would get a more realistic picture.

Northern Calif where I live is probably more like Idaho at 50% or higher, when you consider all the Grandpa type of guns. I would guesstimate that the number of guns exceeds the population (here) by 3 to 5 times. It is a need to know type of thing and NO one needs to know.

The gun grabbers are just dreaming if they think that people will quietly and peacefully give up their weapons.

Hawaii at 45%...protecting all that pot and planning to regain independence. Sounds like a plan.

Gun registration is not required in many states. Registration has historically been a prelude to confiscation. I would never reply to a survey like this. I don't have a CCW because I don't want any government agency knowing if I have firearms. I suspect that Idaho's percent is so high because Mormons are so honest. I suspect that Texas's is so low because people like me won't answer.

"....the 22 in the corner...."

That's the one I've got...just in case. Am I ready to use if effectively in case of the dreaded break in? Not really. But at least it's there. Only 10% in New York? Are they kidding? If I'm even remotely like my neighbors in terms of threat assessment I'll bet 80% of the homeowners in rural and suburban New York have a gun or several.
