Weather, it happens...

It's been warm, it's been cold, we had a frost the other night, yet today I had to mow the lawn. Our drought continues and the old John Deere was kickin' up a dust cloud in parts of my yard. I usually won't fire up a mower on Sunday but we are supposed to get some rain starting tomorrow so my lawn, which has not been mowed in 3 weeks would get a bit unruly if I put off mowing any longer. Here are some pictures of my flowering trees and shrubberies that I took today, except the irises which I photographed a couple of days ago:

I hope that wherever you are your weather is treating you well.

I'm normally mowing every five days at this time of year. I've only mowed twice, and that's probably one too many. Spring just won't seem to take off this year. Flurries all day last week. Two days later it was 83. Rain hit this morning. Looks like it's about worked its way to your part of the state, Sixty. Hope it helps the drought.

So it goes.

Such Abundance, even in drought!

Our grass finally pronounced itself well and truly done with winter's ass, and noticeably made the turn toward green on Friday after another covering of snow melted that morning. This year it wasn't the arrival of sunshine, soft winds, robins, bluebirds, daffodils, forsythia, spring peepers or cardinals singing their spring song that served as the definitive sign; it was the grass saying "Enough and no more!"

Appreciating the song, the message and Mahalia, especially as I'd not heard it before.

Here in in SE NC it's been about 10-15 degrees below average yearly temps all spring. Last year I turned on the AC on Apr 1st. Have not used it yet this year. My garden is WAY behind last year. Way. Still need the heat at night.

MamaM, I was thinking of you when I selected that song.

Tank - sounds like those of us who live in the Old North State have quite a contingent here at Lem's. Perhaps a plurality.

I kept about 2 acres mowed when we lived in WA state. The late snows, the too wet, the too long, it was all too easy to get way behind as that crap is growing 2+ inches a day it seems. I don't miss that at all here in AZ. I miss the smell, I guess. I did once go to traffic court in Wilmington, so there's that.

Crap, forgot to say, like the pictures. Miss that too, here in AZ.

Thank you Sixty!

Flars took me a moment, but brought a smile as well.

XRay - I left the windows open last evening just to allow the smell of newly mown grass into the house. That is nice. And from the sound of it you not only went to court but they let you out too. Well played. Two acres is at least one acre too many. I had to tend that much lawn back in the 1980s - I didn't like it.

Dem flars is a-poppin', fo' sho!
