I don't long for those days or wish the back. While much of what was perceived as class was an appearance managed illusion that covered secrets and some of the same behavior and power plays that go on today, there's an energy and grace presented and conveyed here that I enjoy and admire.
Today's dancing seems more acrobatic, giving it a circus flavor. The old stuff, despite being window dressing hiding the warts of the fallen, still has an elegance today's dancing can't match. I've always enjoyed watching this video, especially since I can't dance. You can only hear "Dance, white boy, dance" so many times before you give it up.
What astounding dancing - I just watched that again and the way the video maker synced the visuals to the music is very impressive. I think the dancer in the "Rosalie" clip over-rotated, but I can't be sure from that clip. The Nikolas brothers - what can I say - my connective tissues hurt just from watching what they did in that movie. Ouch!
Yeah, I am a sucker for top-notch dancing, and there is an abundance of it in those few minutes. It could have included more Bob Fosse, as far as I am concerned, but it seems the cutoff date was about 1952 - just prior to him arriving on the scene.
I've watched the video many times, both for the dancing and Bruno's singing. I like Bruno's story, a guy who grew up singing, wanted to get a record deal but was dismissed for not agreeing to be stereotyped as a Hispanic singer, changed his name, and sings a variety of genres. Add his energy with those of the dancers, and the smile on your own face is just natural.
WB, as a former student of traditional West African drumming that clip is a perfect example of just how sucky drum circles are - what a mishmash of sideshow freaks. And of course, Hashville is famous for their drum circle - I am surprised I didn't recognize any of those players.
Years ago I took a swing dancing class with my girlfriend, next thing you know the entire building was burned down. Coincidence? We may never know...
Sixty, I've got a friend who keeps begging me to go to the drum circle with him. I'm not a drummer. He says it doesn't matter, which the video demonstrates is a common attitude. He's actually a great guy, despite his hippie leanings. Helluva musician. Isn't afraid to play anything with strings. And he's an absolute artist as a welder.

Great video! Apparently they're still swinging in Asheville.
Here's another one. At about 1:25 you'll see even a big guy can do it.
That's fun DB. Wish I could move like that.
This is another Asheville activity that gets a lot of attention.
I hear you deborah. I would if I could but it's a little too late.
