I was in Alabama on business one time and I asked the woman I was with whether or not I should mention that my family was from Mississippi. She said, and I quote "Only if you want them to think you are here to steal something."
I ran into Frank Stton once in an airport. We had a nice conversation about a couple of his roles.
One was the "Catawomper" episode of "Gunsmoke" where the gay Darren from "Bewitched" played an Ichabod Crane character. It s kind of amusing that he always seemed to play off homos.
Most of the time we talked about "A Town Without Pity." One of my favorites.
There was a joke, or an apparent attempt at humor, made by a radio DJ back in the 1970s, it went something like this "If Rock Hudson married Gomer Pyle he would be known as Rock Pyle."
How ludicrous was that - men can't marry men, plus those guys were movies stars, they couldn't possibly be homosexuals. That was merely a play on words, right?
Time proved that weak humor to be powerfully prescient.

Just in time.
Rock Pyle. That is all.
"Back home in Indiana" just not the same without him singing it, but I guess he's gone back to his eternal home.
Nabors was from Alabama but I recall that we always claimed him as a native Mississippian, not sure why.
As celebrity deaths go, I find, after a few hours to reflect, that this one actually hurts a little bit. Lost childhood or something.

I said not a word.
Well, it sure would have been a complete disappointment, if, as a child, I would have learned that he had a husband.
It was announced on MeTV where I watch everyday with by father-in-law. It calms him down.

I wonder who was the Homo in that?
"Rock Pyle. That is all."
Could that possibly also be a play on 'Rock Pile'?
Who's more of an American archetype: Jim Nabors or Joe Pesci?.........are heads exploding out there?
Do you relate more to Gomer Pyle or Tony Soprano?..........neither is also an option.

Guy had a hell of a voice. RIP.
True, but he had no soul. He could hit the notes, but he was stiff as a board doing it.
I missed Gomer when he left Andy Griffith. Goober sucked.
They are showing special Gomer-centric episodes on Andy Giffith and Gomer Pyle tomorrow on MeTV.
I recently saw one where Gomer got fired from the filing station. It was pretty good.
It's just nice to read about a celebrity doing something besides raping.
I never gave two thoughts about Nabors when he was alive. Not going to start now.
