This is what happens when a bunch of grown men lap up being scolded and lessoned and tempted and teased for years. When the dam breaks, it's Johnstown all over again. What pent-up rage. Just admit you were willing participants and it was not all Althouse's fault, and move the fuck on.

My thanks to The Crack MC, Shiloh, and yashh for the update on the Althouse comments fiasco. Very tragic. I am pleased, however, that I'll be able to read some of the commenters here that I so much enjoyed reading over at Ann's. I still enjoy AA's take on things and I enjoy her blog. But as I noted in my email to her, I doubt her blog will be the first-stop blog it has been for me in the past. Oh well. On with the show...

As mentioned previously, don't want to tread on Lem's village so won't be here much longer. Political blogging is no longer a hobby as again, I was never a part of the Althouse community. Not only did I quit cold turkey, but took a couple mos. off before the election. During the time period when most of the cons were 100% sure Romney would win. I digress.

Indeed, I've never been part of any political blogging community, preferring to march to the beat of my own drummer. My entree to political discussion occurred 2003 at a reality tv site that had a current affairs forum. Lurked long enough to notice many of the posters really hated each other lol and thought I would fit right in. But I must say at times Big Brother, Survivor, TAR et al reality show discussion got more heated than politics. Political discussion got sooo heated "we" would have (3) day cool down periods when the political forum was closed, like Althouse is permanently now.

Inga, I get that you are pissed off about the closing of the Althouse comments and that you believe this occurred because of the behavior of one or more people currently posting here. While there may be an element of truth to this the person most responsible for the closing of the comments was Althouse, with Meade a close second.
I think your anger is wrongly directed in this instance. Althouse/Meade had multiple options, they choose one particular path. Despite recent evidence to the contrary, they are grown-ups capable of making their own decisions.
I thought AA (TOP) (sorry) closed it all down mainly because of a local lawyer/law student (or some such) in Madison who was abusing the comments section.

You're right but the negative reaction from other commenters caused her to keep it closed by convincing her she wasn't valued. In particular I think she was annoyed by claims that the comments were the blog's draw.

I have two theories. She is still expressing sorrow particularly over so many people expressing negativism, a larger share then she expected. Meade wants to create enough distance that she can heal, but she's drawn back here by our pings. So he's trying to create a firmer break.
The only way I'm not completely blown away by how wrong I was about Meade is if he's believes he must be a complete ass to protect Ann. I do believe he loves her immensely, and would destroy us all to protect her, but I don't understand why he would think it necessary.

He was always nasty to libs he disliked, so it's relatively easy to think he could be just as nasty to cons given the opportunity.
They live in a bubble w/the entire world revolving around them. On the bright side their passive/aggressive behavior is harmless.
