Sweet Home Auld Lang Syne (Turn it Up)

End of July: We Are Closer to the New Year than the One That Started Almost Seven Months Past.

Things Change, and -- When They Do -- What They Have Changed From Becomes Inevitably More Distant Than Where the Change May Be Leading Us: History Wears BiFocals.

If it Matters: I Am Typing This Wearing a French Maid's Outfit and Duct Tape. I am That Sexy: Auld Lang Hot.

So:

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

    CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
    for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
    for auld lang syne.

In the Hot of Summer, What Does "Auld Lang Syne" Mean To Anyone? Or is it Only a Depths of Winter Want-to-Hibernate Thing?

Feel Free To Drink Room temperature Egg Nog....

Well, it's a song by Robert Burns.

We're listening to Porgy and Bess:

"Summertime and living is easy".

Seems more appropriate.

Sorry. Bring on the Sentiment.

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere !
and gie's a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught,
for auld lang syne.

Not drinking egg nog but we do drink coffee and cocoa in summer. We're having Caprese salad 2 and sometimes 3 times a day because the cherry tomatoes are ripe and sweet and plentiful. I may have to start giving basil to neighbors, it's all we can do to keep up. Wisconsin farmers make excellent fresh mozzarella, an acquaintance one will rarely forget as it often comes to mind.

That song always brings forth a wave of sentimentality that washes over me, thinking of friends I'll never see again before I die--and I had those emotions even as a youth..

lang syne = "long since" (i.e. "long ago") in old Scots.

Perhaps "auld lang syne" is the Door Prize for Those Who Are Not Irish and Thus Not Blessed with "Danny Boy."

Betamax Gets Sentimental From Time to Time

Carry On Betamax

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming,
I can hear them say

Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man,
Well, it surely means that I don't know...

That makes everybody cry at New Years. And it's so true, so true.

And as the last guest leaving was waving goodbye and said, "See you next year!" I suddenly realized the last time I saw the bloke was right here at this same New Year's party and sodding scouser hadn xxxx check that, we hadn't bothered checking with each other all year. And that was true for over 50 % of the people there, and that's a lot of people to start feeling all sentimental about and actually when looked at from above this whole thing is boo-shit and the lies the LIES THE LIES !!!1!!!111 Piss off! I'm glad you're all gone.
