So in effect, Irans desire to create nuclear fuel for a power generation reactor is really a front for further enrichment for a bomb. I mean, we all know this is what they want and with Russia, China, DPRK, and with some US companies that with this new deal will be able to do business with them legally, they will have enough brain power to bring a bomb into fruition. We are fucked.
This is all very interesting, but why are the Iranians interested in a U-235 bomb? We haven't used or stockpiled them since the first one, Little Boy, in 1945. All of our subsequent A-bombs were plutonium bombs, including the first one, "Fat Man." Sure, you need uranium to make plutonium, but you don't need all the fancy isotope separation: it's the high abundance U-238 which transmutes to plutonium when bombarded with neutrons. We discovered that technology in 1941 and we immediately recognized that chemical separation of the plutonium was far easier than uranium isotope enrichment. I even blogged about this bit of history here at Lem's.
So why do the Iranians want large scale uranium enrichment? I think it's because they want the so-called depleted uranium -- what's left behind after you take out the U-235. Depleted uranium is a fantastic "conventional" weapon, used as armor and as self-immoliating projectiles. The Iranians witnessed our deployment of depleted uranium armored tanks and projectiles in the First Gulf War and have wanted some ever since. ____________ *Fat Man was really our second plutonium bomb--the first one was tested at Trinity Flats.
In fact, when the scientists were explaining it to the mullahs, they listened patiently and then asked just one question:
"So does this mean death to America?" When told that yes, it could mean that, they clapped like little monkeys playing cymbals and said in unison: "Then make it so!"

Wait a minute. Are you saying all the hype about the nuclear deal with Iran has been a farce? a sham? total waste of time?
That Iran has duped everybody into believing they want to build a bomb they have no intention of building.
A massive April fools joke?
Sounds totally plausible.
I can simplify all this science to the lowest terms where it makes sense:
Death to America!
