"Polish border guards refuse entry for 10 Russian bikers"

"These people will not cross into Poland. Each of them will individually receive a decision denying them entry into Poland's territory," Sienicki [border guard spokesman] said.
"This is not a normal bike club. They are tools in the hand of Vladimir Putin to make propaganda," said Tomasz Czuwara, spokesman for the Open Dialog Foundation, a Polish group that supports Ukraine.

Not all Poles are against them, however. The head of a Polish bikers' group, Wiktor Wegrzyn, called the Polish opposition to the bikers "anti-Russia hysteria." He and dozens of other Polish bikers gathered on the Polish side of the border Monday to greet and escort the Night Wolves in case they should make it through.

If you're a sentient Pole there is no such thing as anti-Russian hysteria, there is only anti-Russian realism.

What's he talking about? thinks the average history-is-bunk American.

This story makes sense, and it doesn't make sense to me.

Where it makes sense is that Poles are indeed wary of Russia, and especially of Putin, who would love to re-claim Poland as a Russian satellite state. The Putin-influenced bikers are travelling to Poland to celebrate the anniversary of Russian victory over Poland. So, fuck them. Keep them out.

What doesn't make sense is the gang itself. Look at the photo. There's a Polish officer wearing a ridiculous puffy hat talking to a biker. The biker isn't dressed in bad-ass biker style, he's wearing an upper-end BMW jacket, something worn by elite dicks world-over. I don't get that.

Plus, the Night Wolves usually ride Ural motorcycles, a Russian made imitation of a 1950 BMW. They are total pieces of crap, slow, poorly made and unreliable. The parent company sells them in the US, and only idiots buy them. Not very bad ass' puttering along at wide open throttle at 55 mph, your Babushka bounding along in the sidecar, a basket of cabbages on her lap.
