The Jig is Up

Nineteen prominent theologians have published a letter in which they accuse the Pope of heresy. From the Catholic News Agency:

.- A group of nineteen Catholics, including some prominent academics, have published an open letter to the bishops of the world accusing Pope Francis of heresy.
The letter, made public on April 30, was dated “Easter week” and signed by 19 individuals, including Fr. Aiden Nichols OP, an internationally recognized theologian and author. The 15-page letter begins by asking the bishops of the world to take some action against the pope.
“We are addressing this letter to you for two reasons: first to accuse Pope Francis of the canonical delict of heresy, and second, to request that you take the steps necessary to deal with the grave situation of a [sic] heretical pope.”
The letter lists seven specific areas of Church teaching where the signatories believe the pope has “through his words and actions, publicly and pertinaciously” demonstrated his belief in “propositions that contradict divine law.”
The complaints focus on supposed teachings of the pope concerning sexuality and morality which they claim run contrary to the Church’s magisterium. The letter highlights what the signatories believe to be problematic passages from the pope’s 2016 post-synodal apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia, especially concerning Catholics in irregular marital situations.
Among specific heretical beliefs the letter accuses the pope of holding is the position that a Catholic can, with full knowledge of divine law, violate that law and not be in a state of grave sin.
The letter also references a number of bishops, cardinals, and priests whom the authors claim are themselves heretical and the pope either appointed or allowed to remain in office, as further proof of the Holy Father’s “heresy.”
I have been talking about the fact that this Pope is illegitimate and has done much to try to destroy the Church from within for years. From his promotion of homosexual perverts to be cardinals.... to his acceptance of politicians who promote abortion...... to his surrender to the Chinese government to let them control the Chucch in China....to his attacks on fundamental precepts of the church this Anti-Pope has been the tool of Satan. There are many other members of the Church who are aware of the danger and who are speaking out. I can only pray that the situation will change sooner rather than later.
The Church will endure. However we are under an almost unprecedented attack from Muslims, atheists and other bitter enemies of Jesus Christ. We do not have a leader. We need someone to step forward.

"The jig is up" is the punchline of the joke about the first black astronaut.

P.S. I'm available for that Pope gig. Which is only one letter away from jig.

Why me? Why not me? I'm an absolutist. None of this namby pamby relativist stuff. What the Church needs. What the world needs.

You have my vote, ricpic. Sadly I am not in college nor a cardinal.

Left (would-be/almost-are feudal overlords who hand out candy and favors and their captive peasants) and right (everyone else whether they know it or not) are fighting each other in the Church, and churches in general, as well as everywhere else in society. I think they shuffled Benedict off by threatening him with kid-touching allegations (which may or may not have been true) and installed this communist stooge in his place who is also probably a molester or is, at the very least, a friend to molesters in the Church. Who loses? The faithful people, their children, the Church.

I confess I haven't read the letter, but even without reading it, I will say the authors of it have overreached.

The accusation of heresy requires rather precise and substantial evidence to support it.

In common parlance, most people take it to mean he's just too liberal. But that isn't the same thing.

Heresy is an extremely serious charge to make. The authors needed to have a solid case. Given what is on the public record, they can't make the case, which is why I don't need to read their letter.

What they might well be able to argue, successfully, is that Pope Francis is too tolerant of other people's heresies or dissent. But again, that is an entirely different thing.

I am about 1/3 through In the Closet of the Vatican. As I have seen in my personal and professional life, this book is, in specifics, documenting how the most homophobic hierarchy in the Church are gay. It's a page turner. Although I do skip over much of the minutiae.

Just breathing the word cranks everything up several notches.

I have a feeling someone is about to turn up, too.

just like The God Emperor of the Cherry Blossom Throne.

All I know is a trip to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chappel is pretty expensive. The Pope likes to go after Trump about walls and illegal immigrants, but is not cleaning up the problems in the Church with child molesters. When the Church is more about museum and commererce than being a church and doing what is right, something is wrong.

I just skimmed the letter. Several of the cardinals/bishops mentioned as complicit w/ the pope are prominent in the aforementioned book.

It should be pointed out, the homosexual problems in the church are not new. They go back generations but have slowly become institutionalized @ the Vatican. Non homosexuals are a distinct minority. They are not members of what is semi-openly called, The Parish.

The church has already received The Very Best of the Very Best in the form of the Spirit of the Living Christ residing within each member who partakes of His body and blood. They don't need a human leader. The Good Book contains story after story of what happens to those who long for a king or look for someone to specifically tell them which rules to follow to realize the kingdom of heaven, after Jesus was decidedly clear about what was needed, starting with open eyes and ears, followed by asking, seeking and knocking.

The history of the Roman Catholic church reveals the great and terrible things done while following their supposedly infallible leaders. Instead of pining for more of the same, how about considering the exponential power of "2 or 3 together" as described in these words attributed to Christ Jesus in the Book of Matthew? Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

What might be possible if each member of the Greater Body committed or recommitted themselves to following the Two Great Commandments to the best of their ability, with dunamis (dynamic )power of the Holy Spirit Jesus promised to send and fill them with, onboard to serve as Counselor and Guide?
