This celery does this within the first two days. The center grows noticeably.
But I don't know how this works for a garden. Four previous stumps did the same thing, continued to grow taller and wider but not growing any roots. then all four died at the same time.
The original cuttings are thick and short. The new growth is longer and thinner. They're starting to grow thicker.
Two of the new growths extend sideways. On one of them two new buds appeared overnight.
At night time the new growth was standing erect. And I wondered that night where I should move it. The new growth grew to the lamps of the Aerogarden on top of the refrigerator there is no more room to move up the lamps.
The next morning the tallest growth tipped over. I actually wanted that because flowers form only on branches hanging down. So I want them to hang down immediately instead of growing up, as cultivators do.
The hinge formed overnight. And it's sturdy and tough.
There are two of these rooting in cups. A third is already rooted in dirt.
The roots grow out the sides. Not the bottom.
Maybe celery is this way too. Maybe I can pull off the outer stalk stubs like the outer pineapples leaves are pulled off.
More of the leaves turned brown on these two than on the previous one. And new leaves are not forming in the center.
