Brian Williams' comments about dead bodies, Hurricane Katrina draw scrutiny

"Williams’ account of seeing a body float by in the French Quarter — which remained largely dry — and even a claim of catching dysentery from drinking Katrina floodwaters have raised eyebrows among bloggers and elsewhere since he took it on the chin this week over a claim that he rode in a helicopter that was downed by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq."
“I was instead in a following aircraft. We all landed after the ground fire incident and spent two harrowing nights in a sandstorm in the Iraq desert,” Williams said Wednesday. He painted his earlier description as a “bungled attempt” to thank an Iraq War veteran...

Last year, in an interview with Tom Brokaw, the man he replaced in the anchor chair at NBC, Williams said:

“My week, two weeks there was not helped by the fact that I accidentally ingested some of the floodwater. I became very sick with dysentery, our hotel was overrun with gangs, I was rescued in the stairwell of a five-star hotel in New Orleans by a young police officer. We are friends to this day. And uh, it just was uh, I look back at total agony.”

But the French Quarter, the original high ground of New Orleans, was not impacted by the floodwaters that overwhelmed the vast majority of the city.

Lies? What difference, at this point, does it make?

We don't have news or media, we have silly self-important blow- hards who remind us to drive safety and take our vitamin D all while they read White House copy. Jobs and the economy are booming or bust depending on who they want to help or hurt in the white house. Reality can be fudged.

Imagine the outrage and wall to wall coverage if someone at Fox News was caught in this lie?

the picketing... the screaming... the insistence of firing....

MSNBC/NBC- wall to wall.

Falsus in Uno, Falsus in Omnibus.

Or so they tell me.

I just read that Brokaw is calling for Williams' firing. Surprising. I assumed the establishment newsreaders would close ranks behind Williams.

Okay, just reread the story and it's "reported" that Brokaw wants Williams fired. He hasn't come out and publicly called for firing Williams.

Brokaw wants him fired.

But they will keep him because he has the ratings.

As a denizen of New Orleans who decamped to my Mother-in-laws house in Opelousas to ride out Katrina and who not only watched local and national coverage 24/7 and was part of the first wave allowed back when it was pretty much still a Ghost town, I can say unequivocally that Williams is /was lying in almost every respect. There were floating dead bodies aplenty, alright, just not in those areas he claims he viewed them in--especially in those areas..

What's the over/under on Williams getting fired. I think he has a good chance of survival. The megaphones are silent. I watched he Letterman monologue last night. He didn't mention Williams. It was on Letterman's show that Williams spaded the biggest shovelful of horseshit. But attention must not be paid. Letterman supplied the usual patter of stale jokes about Romney. He said that Romney looked like a guy who played the President in a movie. Well, thus so with Williams. He looks like central casting's idea of a news anchor......But there will be no jokes directed at Williams by the late night comedians. There will be some criticism among the news commentators, but the criticism will be muted and transient. Next week if you criticize Williams, you will be accused of piling on and living in the past.......My bet would be on Williams' continued survival.

Let us not forget JournOlist. A gathering of liberal liars with an agenda. That agenda was to help Obama get elected the first time. They had a narrative that they all agreed to help spread. Had there been any integrity with that profession, they all should have lost their jobs, but none did.

Williams has nothing to worry about.

"Anchorman" should have been nominated for Best Documentary.

He is a pompous, lying sack of shit. But, the media protect their own, like cops, attorneys and politicians. There are some great photo shopped images of him @ Iwo Jima, MLK speech, JFK assassination, etc.

They're worried about the credibility of broadcast journalism.

That died with Wally Crankcase during Tet.
