From the Stars and Stripes reporter Travis Tritten's interview with NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. Williams is asked how he could misremember what aircraft he was on. See the full story at: www.stripes.com/go/brianwilliams

[Chip edit]

I just finished this, not what?, 3 minutes ago. I itshay you otnay. So, I might as well had stick it here.

Honestly, I never listen to the guy. I just don't. This whole thing means nothing to me except further proof the whole industry is shoddy and not needed. The way his stories are corrected shows we do not not him nor his whole industry. A lot of people still watch, but I do not know who that would be.

The funniest one I heard was that Williams claimed to have been beheaded by ISIS. I believe him.

Agree with Chip that I long ago quit watching the news. Part of it was because of my realization of Gell-Mann Amnesia and desires not to suffer from it, but also the part where network news was slow to inform viewers of anything. That network news is now just fables is simply a continuation of its function as entertainment. If it wasn't entertainment, they wouldn't wait until after the commercial to tell you the vital piece of information you should know that could save your life or money. Such a wait would be cruel, but alas the information itself just isn't that vital, and the hype of the news importance to you is just another fable.

Only thing I can say in a very weak limited defense of Williams is that he was no doubt wetting his pants when the first engagement began and likely didn't really remember anything...so he ad libbed. Whoops.

Oh, and Bagoh20 wins the thread on the very first post!

Big news. As about as honest and worthwhile as a hole in the head or an unexploded RPG in the side of a Chinook. :D

Either way, I agree with the sentiment that these anchors are really nothing more than teleprompter readers. At this point, you might as well, just put the words on the television itself and let me read them at my leisure. There is nothing that staring at these people reciting the copy will do anything for me at this point. The whole thing just reeks of scam.

The All-American boychick can't tell the truth because then he'd lose all his toys. I understand. I don't forgive but I understand.

I've been thinking for a while that the Left is coming apart at the seams, largely because of the utter failure not only of the current Administration, but the failure of Communism and socialism around the world in recent years.

But some of the stuff recently, such as Williams, Little Zero's Crusades thing, and his bloodless, bizarre comments on the Paris deli shooting make me wonder if it's something else.

Like maybe some demographic shift we don't see yet, something that's a total repudiation of the whole Lefty paradigm.

I know.

Weird.

Last month he claimed his porn star daughter was an actor.

Misremembered multiple times? Fabricated other stories to make himself look good? Nope. He's canceled on Letterman which would have been the first step back into the good graces of the People Who Matter (and Natter).

Now it looks like he's maybe on his way out. They let him claim to have made the decision to "step away" though when he should have been outright fired. Maybe people are waking up to the extent of the misinformation they've been spoon fed all these years and realize they need to think for themselves.
If he stays it just shows even the stupidest prog that they're being led about.

He's a master of the humble brag. By telling you how frightened he was, he is, in effect, telling you how much danger he was in. It's self aggrandizement, but he doesn't sound grandiose. He's a pro, but the game is up. I don't see how he can possibly return to delivering the news......That said, I'd like to calibrate my outrage. He's a blowhard, but, in the spectrum of human frailties, that's not such a heavy sin. Consider Bill Cosby. Over several decades he raped dozens of women. He won't die with full honors, but he has already lived most of his life and he will certainly die rich. I can name lots of others who did far worse than Williams and got away with it......Williams deserves to lose his job, but, for all that, he's still a member of the human race......I question whether any who now criticize him so freely have the lush, neatly trimmed hair that he shows up to work with day in and day out.

I don't really see any bragging here. He is not claiming any heroics. He's just along for the ride. He does nothing but be there, and claims nothing more.

He is lying though, and that's the problem. People listen to him to get some truth of their world, and now they can't rely on him for that. This is bad when informing people is your job at $10 million a year, you fucking idiot!

He made the mistake of believing he was a celebrity, one of those people for whom any publicity is good. He was more than that and let himself down. Now he is just a celebrity.

He's totally bragging. Just check out Letterman's reaction when Williams tells his I-was-shot-at story. Wow so impressed. It's not enough to read the news, he wanted everyone to know he's LIVED the news. Bullets and dead bodies are just another day at the office for your humble correspondent. Lends gravitas which is needed when it comes down to his real job which is presenting the progressive narrative and running down conservatives. The only actual NEWS Brian Williams has ever broken is the story about how he made up a story. This has come as news to a lot of people.

I saw the President being interviewed and he was asked why he can't stop ISIS and bring them to justice. He replied: I wish I could, but I'm no Brian Williams.

This morning I saw something really funny on Twitter. It was a picture of The Lone Ranger (on the left) and Tonto (on the right), with Elizabeth Warren's head on Tonto's body and the caption: "Hard to tell with the mask on, but I think the one on the left is Brian Williams."

Been thinking the same thing myself.

But some of the stuff recently, such as Williams, Little Zero's Crusades thing, and his bloodless, bizarre comments on the Paris deli shooting make me wonder if it's something else.

I've always suspected that if you could see what his real political beliefs are you'd find out that they are all word for word those of his mother and grandmother circa 1977. The world is rapidly changing and he can't deal with it, so he doubles down and bucks himself up by making such pronouncements. I'm starting to wonder if we may see him lose it soon.

Like maybe some demographic shift we don't see yet, something that's a total repudiation of the whole Lefty paradigm.

They've become so racially divisive, anti-middle class, and anti-American that I'm starting to see some of my family members who were huge Obama cheerleaders struggle to defend him. There's a shift coming, may take a while, but it's coming.

AllenS...maybe you should have your own TV show. Your humor is subtle but hilarious and you can say things in a few words I struggle to do in hundreds. Does that sound envious? Yep...and it is just that.
