KLEM FM

According to Wiki, the song "American Girl" never charted for Tom Petty. That doesn't seem right, somehow.

The video features a gorgeous collection of female faces from the golden era of American cinema.

Oh and the guitar is very Byrdsy.

Now that I'm listening with a critical eye... I hear a tune that might have played well in a musical with John Travolta.

The chorus has that musical flavor to it.

Don't fly us there, Lem.

Well, maybe that's why it didn't sell. I'm just saying.

"American Girl" was one of those songs that I really liked but had no idea what it was about. Did the girl commit suicide? I never bothered to find out.

Most everyone I've ever known has liked Tom Petty, no matter what other music they were into.

I was always heavy into punk and alternative stuff from the time I was about 15-16, but I always enjoyed Petty and the Heartbreakers' work.

How come no picture of Beyoncé. This demeans the artistic integrity of the video and the song itself.

When I think of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, I think free fallin.

I wanna write her name in the sky
I wanna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for awhile"
