"Rand Paul on Tennessee Terror: Restrict Immigration from Muslim Nations"

"Paul said in an interview backstage at a rally his presidential campaign is holding inside the Hyatt Regency here in downtown Houston:"
I’m very concerned about immigration to this country from countries that have hotbeds of jihadism and hotbeds of this Islamism. There was a program in place that Bush had put in place—it stood for entry-exit program from about 25 different countries with a lot of Islamic radicals, frankly. I think there does need to be heightened scrutiny. Nobody has a right to come to America, so this isn’t something that we can say ‘oh their rights are being violated.’ It’s a privilege to come to America and we need to thoroughly screen those who are coming.

Doesn't matter whether Paul really means it or just has his finger in the wind. What matters is the strength of the wind and the more pols follow Trump's lead the less able the establishment will be to ignore the obvious.

Much too sensible to be done.!

If we do allow them in, we should make the Islamic country take one Democrat or one illegal alien for each transfer.

Everyone that I know thinks the same thing.

I know we have some long-serving vets, all branches, so I'll ask

Are the conditions now for carrying a weapon on post that much different than, say, during 'Nam or when Reagan was in? Weapons locked up except for training or guard/security duty?

Seems to me the issue might not be arming service people, but doing something about all the Moslems His Poutiness and the Hildabest have been eagerly importing.

YMMV

I can't remember who, if anyone, carried a weapon with ammo. I'm sure someone did, but I can't remember who. Bush I was the one who started the "no loaded weapons on post".

You need to understand, you have to check your weapon (rifle) into the weapons room when you're done using it, and it better be really, really, really clean. You do not get to keep it with you over night, unless you are in the field for an "exercise", then you only had blanks to shoot.

When you checked your weapon out of the weapons room, you didn't get ammo until you reached the place where you were going to shoot it.

Get caught with ammo in the barracks that you're not supposed to have, and you are FUCKED.

The Air Force and Army support personnel I was around in Vietnam had no access to our weapons. Maybe it was for the better. The VC never came onto Nha Trang AB but there were plenty of young guys who, after some drinking, were ready for a fight. The black power movement was just beginning and young blacks were greeting each other with fist salutes and were not of a mind to overlook transgressions from whites who were sometimes openly resentful of this new attitude so there were some fights. That's not to say it was all racial hostility; much of it was just young bloods being themselves.

From what Allen said it sounds like the Army was aware of potential problems and acted accordingly. I have no idea how they'll cope with this new threat.

I should have started with this: When I served stateside, we were not allowed to have our rifles and ammo.

However, when we were in Viet Nam we all carried our personal weapons and ammo. At all times. There wasn't any other place to keep them.

When I left VN, I can't remember where exactly when I had to turn in my weapon, but I do remember feeling completely naked and vulnerable.

OK, in 'Nam, I can understand doing the full battle rattle, but stateside or other billets overseas (Germany, Japan, Canal Zone, maybe even Korea) it didn't apply.

Some people seem to use this issue to score brownie points at either Bush (41 or 43) or Willie (on anything else I wouldn't cut him any slack) saying it was their fault and I wanted to see if they were blowing smoke.

Thanks, guys.
