Whose that TV Show?

"Most people just don't know how to make good coffee. In the first place, they boil the water before they put the coffee in. Any fool knows you gotta put the coffee in the cold water and bring them both to a boil together. That way you get all of the flavor. Worst thing they do, they throw away the old grounds after using them once. What they don't know is that they are throwing away the best part. You got to keep them old grounds and you add a little fresh coffee every morning and let her boil. Shoot, you don't make a cup, you build a pot. You don't really get a good pot until you've been usin' it about a week. Then it's coffee!"

I like them stovetop eyetalian espresso makers. You pack in some fine grounds above a a cold pot of water. Heat makes steam that forces itself up through the ground coffee and then collects in a cup inside shielded from direct heat.

Steam is much much better at extracting oils, etc, than hot water is. Steam is actually "non-polar."

Leave it to the eyetalians to improve on simple "cowboy coffee."

I hired a NYC Jew to be our art guide @ the Vatican. She paid her way when we got to the Vatican Museum and there was a 3 hour line. As we pulled up in the taxi she said, "Are you OK w/ cutting in line?" My bride and daughter cringed, I gave a resounding, "You bet!" So, she has the driver drop us off right near the front of the line and she starts engaging another personal tour guide she knows. We're in! But, the Jew notes there are Brits right behind us and she whispers, "Don't make eye contact w/ the Brits." My women are mortified, I'm loving it as these Brits start yammering about Americans thinking they own everything.

This tour guide was interesting. She had a masters in art history and went to NYU w/ Spike Lee. She said he was coddled and had only average talent. She had lived in Rome for 20 years but remained a YUGE Giants fan..LOVING Bill Parcells. She had COPD so we had to stop frequently during the tour. We took her to lunch and she had the taxi take us to the best place I've ever eaten. Upscale but not expensive. Now, I'm getting to the coffee. I was going to order a cappuccino and she admonished me saying, "You only drink cappuccino in the morning."
