I have to be honest and admit I have no particular reaction to Miss Verdugo. But the music, that's another matter. I'm such a sucker for schmaltzy sad music.
I once saw her on Marcus Welby and assumed she was a young woman. I was surprised when she turned up in House of Frankenstein from 1944 as a real young woman.
You can see her in Gene Autry movies from right after WWII and she was a mainstay of early TV.
She was in an old Wells Fargo and you could see just how beautiful she was, a true lady in the grand manner as befits a daughter of the old California aristocracy.
Even in the b-movies, she got third or fourth billing, sometimes after Champion the wonder horse. Still, she had a long career and never really lost her looks. Had Orwell lived long enough he would have observed that women get the sex appeal they deserve in a their fifties.
