Via Instapundit: ESPN's chief is defending the network after intense backlash this week, including a stream of White House criticism over anchor Jemele Hill calling President Trump a "white supremacist."
"We have issues of significant debate in our country at this time," ESPN president John Skipper wrote in a memo to staff on Friday reported by multiple media outlets.
"In light of recent events, we need to remind ourselves that we are a journalistic organization and that we should not do anything that undermines that position," he continued, noting, "ESPN is about sports."
"ESPN is not a political organization. Where sports and politics intersect, no one is told what view they must express," he said.
"At the same time, ESPN has values," Skipper continued, writing ESPN is "committed to inclusion and an environment of tolerance where everyone in a diverse work force has the equal opportunity to succeed."
The White House continued to hammer ESPN on Friday, calling it "hypocritical" for what it deems a double-standard in how the network handles conservative and liberal employees.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during the daily briefing that ESPN once suspended longtime anchor Linda Cohn while distancing itself but not firing Hill this week.

Now, the rest of the story...
The ratings must be cratering.
The first time I saw Jemele Hill on one of the sport reporter shows I thought, "This woman ain't very bright." She's black sassy, but dumb. And yes..her ratings are tanking as are all of ESPN and the NFL. The NFL has many empty seats and declining ratings.
ESPN, the NFL and the NBA are all making the same mistake. The mistake that the Democratic party has made as well.
They have ignored and demonized the white working class portion of their fan base and supporters. They celebrate criminals in supporting Black Lives Matters and perverts in the transgender or homosexual or whatever bullshit they come up with now. Instead the ban and fire people who believe in the right for life or traditional values or the fact that someone with a dick should not be allowed in the girls bathroom. So they fire Schilling and not this nasty savage with the tweets calling the President a white supremacist.
It is in fact a black and white issue. To these utlra liberals white is wrong and black is right. No matter what crimes or failures they might commit. It is part and parcel of the coming reorganization of the political landscape.
This is all a product of identity politics. White people are now going to operate as an identity group. Trump fed into that and that is one of the main reason he got elected. Don't listen to the media who downgrade this factor. It will be the difference in most elections in the future.
I call it the "Dinkins" effect. When a black screws it up so much that the population will acccept someone they would never accept in normal circumstances. That is how you got Trump.
