" I want to be a cowgirl. Can I come to the Ponderosa Hoss?"
" Sure Golde, I will ride you....eh, I mean I will ride out there with you."
" That sounds like fun. But will you sock it to me?"
:"Oh yeah, I will sock it to you baby you nevermind. Hey did I ever tell you Kate is my favorite baby name."
"Ok."

Back in the early eighties I was sitting at a table inside the lodge atop Ajax (that's Aspen Mountain to those of you not as cool as me) with my lovely and athletically bodied sweetie of the time when I looked up to see a shockingly stunning blonde in a white one piece ski suit come walking down the aisle directly towards me. She was carrying a tray. I was very, very impressed, but being cool, I looked away after a polite 3 second gawk. She looked familiar and it struck me that the beauty in the aisle was Goldie Hawn, a source of many of my earlier teenage fantasies.

I had always thought of Goldie as more cute than beautiful but, man alive. Anyhoo, I followed up with another two seconds of admiration as she strutted past me while I breathed in deeply. When she was out of hearing range I whispered to my sweetie who, of course, had noticed my looks, "That was Goldie Hawn." She (the sweetie) turned and looked, to my mild embarrassment.

Having had no previous encounters with Hollywood starlets I must say that the episode forever changed my opinion on just how good they can look in person when they're all cleaned up. The memory is with me to this day. The sweetie is long gone.

She kept her fastball well past middle age. Some of her contemporaries became wax replicas of themselves, but she stayed natural and sexy well into her sixties. She got to be hotter than Julie Christie. You've got to hang in there,......As I recall, Hoss died suddenly of a massive coronary. Bonanza had been a successful, long running show. Nobody thought of Hoss as the star or linchpin of the show, but, after he died, the ratings dropped precipitously and the show was cancelled. You never know what works until it stops working.
