We interrupt this blog...

To tell you it's snowing like a banshee out there tonight. Ladies and gentlemen please, please, if you are indoors, stay indoors... driving is very hazardous tonight. We are now talking "10 to 14 inches for the five boroughs". Very hazardous. "We are expecting a greater volume of snow." The mayor said. "It will be very windy tonight". And "the combination of snow and blowing snow will make driving very very dangerous."

No Quickie Mart scratch-off Tonight

If you are on the road, drive very carefully. We don't want anything bad to happen to you. Watch out for the plows. Visibility is below normal. Slow down. Use your blinkers. Start braking way before reaching the intersection. Turn the heat all the way up, if you are cold.

If you have anymore suggestions please share them with us in the comments.

We're breaking records here in California. Record highs. Record streak of above 80 degree temperatures.

We've skipped winter entirely so far this year.

Which is not a good thing.

Paddy, I'll trade you some 1º for some 80º.

Want some moisture? You can have the 1" of snow we got last night.

I've never understood why snow falling in NYC is such a big deal. In most other places that experience snowy winters a 12"-14" snowfall doesn't harken the end of the world. Upstate, Buffalo probably has snowfalls like that every week in winter.

It should be easier to cope with snow in NYC because of the subway system being underground, away from the weather.

Maybe it's just Manhattanites' self obsession.

Now, in California the weather forecasts are quite different. It's not unusual for the weathermen to predict partly gnarly with a chance of tofu.

Because that's the weather out there. I once got caught in a surprise tortilla burst in San Diego.

Great. Now it's really windy.

Is it? The forecast for here in Vilas County is 2" of powder this morning, then 40 mph winds this afternoon messing up the driving.

At least DeBlasio isn't my snow plow guy.

Here's my suggestion: Move to Tahiti and learn French.

As much as I like to make fun of the New Yorkers for their sky is falling attitude everytime winter arrives.....Geeze it is like there never has been winter before, what a bunch of pussies....but I digress.

As much fun...there really isn't anywhere to plow the snow to clear the roads. Unlike us in the country we can just shove the snow to the side of the road or driveway and make big berms that last until April. In a crowded city, there IS no side of the road. It is sidewalks, cars everywhere parked on next to the curbs and people's houses/stoops open up directly onto the street. Removing the snow is a big fucking deal, to quote Joe Biden. It has to be plowed and then scooped up and transported somewhere else. While the snow plow people have to deal with morons who don't know how to drive and further plug up the roadways.

We are not having winter up here in the mountains. Dry and cold. Not nearly as cold as it should be, we are going to hit the mid to high 50's today. Dry dry dry. No snowpack. Bags and Chick are going to be in trouble come this summer because we will have NO water to be shuttled south.

DBQ, it was in the 20s last Saturday, and I took the time to push the snow farther back on the driveway. A long time ago, I lived in St. Paul, didn't have a driveway and it was a very big problem when we had a snow fall, especially if it was a lot of snow.

Current conditions? 75 and clear with a 5 knot wind.

Rain expected the next two days and then clear all weekend with highs between 50 and 70.

Did I mention the lakes are full?

AllenS, I'd totally take that trade right now.

We don't even have snow in the mountains. That's what is supposed to be good about SoCal winters, we can visit the snow any time we want, we just don't have to shovel it.

A person thrives on variety!
