Sixty's talk about his beloved big bamboo put me in a mood for some vintage Cheech and Chong. Their second album, called "Big Bambu," hit the record shelves in 1972, just around the time I hit middle school. It was perfect puerile fodder for imitation. I used to know these skits by heart and could recite them doing all the voices. Good times.

I just caught "I'm Dying Up Here"

I recently started streaming Showtime and I caught a series about comedy called "I'm Dying Up Here."

It tells the story of the "The Comedy Store" in the 1970's where a bunch of big time comedians got their start. Richard Pyor. Robin Williams. Andy Kauffman. Jay Leno. David Letterman. Elyane Boosler. Richard Lewis. The list goes on and on. Jim Carrey is a producer and he got his start there as well.

I am a big comedy fan. Of course I follow most of the younger guys that have podcasts these days. It is a fictionalized account so it is interesting to guess who is who. I binge watched two seasons and I reccomend it. It is well done and entertaining and the seventies details are right on to coin a phrase.

Louis CK was always a jerk off ......Louis CK on Robert Kelly....Very Not Safe for work

I had to laugh about all the sanctimonious shits pontificating about Louie CK and Judge Roy Moore. I always thought Louie CK was a dick. Here he is on the Opie and Anthony show trashing Bobby Kelly. Bobby is a generous guy who helped a lot of the new comics to get exposure on his podcast "You know what dude." He is sort of a mentor to a lot of the younger guys. But to the comics of his own generation like Louie, Rich Vos, Jim Norton and Colin Quinn he is just a punching bag.

Louie CK was always a jerk off

I am a big time comedy fan. I enjoy stand up and I love to listen to it on the radio. Much more so than TV as you can multi-task and listen while doing something else. The radio is where I was introduced to Louie CK when he would visit the Opie and Anthony show and interact with other comics like Jim Norton a cohost, Patrice O'Neil, Bob Kelly and Rich Vos. The interplay and savage joking was a lot of fun. Louie CK was just another loud mouth asshole.

But that all changed as he got more successful.

I have been enjoying comedy on Youtube these days. This is one of the nastiest and funniest roast battles I have ever seen.

Since I don't have cable I have to look for entertainment elsewhere. One of the best sources is Youtube. It live streams on my TV and there are tons of interesting stuff. Old Westerns. Full movies. All kinds of stuff.

Lately I have been listening to comedy and found these hidden gems. It seems a comedy club in Manhattan has this Roast where two young comics go head to head ranking each other out. It can be pretty funny stuff. I knew  Christi Chiello from her appearances on Bob Kelly's podcast which is another cool listen. She sounds like a cartoon character but can be pretty funny. This paticular one was brutal in the put downs.

These face off's can be pretty entertaining. It is like being in a comedy club without the watered down drinks or the drunks heckling the comics. Just a way to pass some time. Good stuff.

Dave Chappelle’s Rare NYC Gig– “Black Lives Matter is the Worst Slogan I’ve Ever Heard”

Showbiz 411:  He began the hour by saying, quite jovially: “This will be a racist show. I’m telling you now.” His jokes about blacks and white were evenly divided. But the subjects of the day were right up there. “Black lives matter is a terrible slogan,” he said. He much prefers Dwayne Wade’s hashtag “enough is enough.”

As for the killing of Wade’s cousin, and Donald Trump’s immediate vulgarizing of it, Chappelle said: “Oh yeah, now I’m voting for Donald Trump.” That drew peals of laughter from the mixed race crowd. But I couldn’t help wonder what black comics and their audiences are saying around the country in similar clubs. Trump’s message–“What do you have to lose?”–is now a set up for various punchlines.

Chappelle talked about wanting to vote for Hillary Clinton. But it also turns out that he and his wife are friendly with outspoken conservative black actress Stacey Dash. That gives the argument balance, although he conceded that he and “Stacey are not soulmates.” He also touched on the very recent stabbing at Cornell. Is it too soon? “Who stabs anymore?” he added: “Very OJ.”

Canadian Comedian fined and College "Privilege Board" at Appalachian State

Canadian comedian Mike Ward was fined a whopping $42,000 by Quebec’s Human Rights Tribunal for jokes he made about a disabled boy.

“This makes me wanna go to my safe space!”

Appalachian State University students must walk past a “privilege board” denouncing their white, male, able-bodied, Christian, or cisgender privilege any time they enter the Student Union.

The bulletin board is located in Plemmons Student Union (PSU), which the school calls “the centerpiece of the Appalachian campus,” and was apparently put up by a student group last semester, but has been allowed to remain in place to date.

Via W Free Beacon:  “You are so funny,” Matthews said. “What do you think? Funniest guy? Funniest black guy?”

“Funniest black guy?” Che repeated incredulously.

Fellow “Weekend Update” host Colin Jost burst out laughing at Matthews’ question.

“I’m going to say Cosby so nobody gets mad at you,” Che said, referring to Bill Cosby, who has been accused by dozens of women of sexual abuse.
