As I was saying…..

So while youse guys were busy invading Iran and bullshit like that there ... Lisa and I were busy promoting her novel "The Brooklyn Witch-The Battle for Brooklyn."

We have been doing a mini-book tour of the Libraries on Long Island. Our next one is July 17 at the Elmont Library.

We are also proud of the work we have been doing on our podcast. In response to the feedback from Nick Spinelli we have really solved the audio quailty problem. The Oceanside Library has a wonderful podcast room and we have been posting a new podcast every week. They are on Spotify and you can access them here;

Podcast — Life According to Lisa (and Jim too!) | Lee Lee’s Valise - Lee Lee's Valise

Each podcast is listed on our website and you can follow the link through to Spotify where you can follow and subscribe (at no cost as it is all free),

I hope youse guys have the book and we would love any feedback in the form of reviews or even comments.

Now back to your previously scheduled war.

Codex and Scroll

"A few other trends actually seem to be moving backward in the new millennium. For instance, audiobooks are a return to the oral tradition, and podcasts—talks, interviews, radio series—dispense with the written record completely. The codex—the book with turnable pages sewn between covers—was a great improvement over the scroll, but now, with publication online, we are back to scrolling again, which makes it hard to refer back to things."

The above is excerpted from this article, which is excerpted from this book. The article is fun and worth a read, if you're interested in language.

One of my pet grumps is links that look like they might be interesting, but go to podcasts or talking-head videos (which I ignore). Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams used to have a blog I enjoyed; now it's no longer a blog, just links to podcasts. There are plenty of reasons why I prefer text, whether on scroll, codex or monitor, to audio files.
  • Most important, I can read much faster than I can listen to someone talk.
  • I can skim over or skip material that I'm not interested in, or that I already know.
  • I can easily re-read something, or check it against something elsewhere in the piece.
  • I can easily reference footnotes, maps, indices etc.
But, you say, what about the personal intangibles -- emotion, expression, tone of voice, nuance? Well, you've got a point. But I don't think it outweighs all the disadvantages.

And anyway, good writing can supply some of that tone and nuance, he said with a winning smile.

WKRLEM: Call of Duty Bob Kelly (funniest video ever)

That's not to say making fun of Bobby Kelly is not hilarious. I enjoy his podcast a lot and the best ones are when guys like Colin Quinn are on and tell him he looks like a fat Japanese Lesbian.

This is one of the funniest bits ever on Opie and Anthony where they mock Bobby's trip to Iraq with the USO.

That time Gilbert Gottfried got Adam West to talk about an orgy

By Barbara Hoffman New York Post, Page Six October 28, 2016
“I’ve always been kind of an idiot savant,” Gilbert Gottfried tells The Post. “Well, more idiot than savant. I was one of those people who always remembered the names of character actors and makeup men.” That gift goes back to elementary school in Brooklyn, when his teacher threw out initials, asking students to name the celebrity — as in BH for Bob Hope. One day the initials were “OS,” and young Gilbert shrieked, “Onslow Stevens!”
“He was an old character actor,” says Gottfried, 61, “but everybody turned around and looked at me, like, ‘What the hell is he talking about?’ ”

Hello Sports Fans!

To get you in the mood, let me introduce this humorous video with a play-by-play of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, courtesy of our very own rhhardin:

I showed you that by way of introduction to those who haven't yet discovered the Sklarbro Country podcast series. The Sklar brothers first came to my notice when my son watched their ESPN show, Cheap Seats, which began in 2004. Here is just a portion of their performance history:
The Sklar brothers have also appeared in television shows such as Law & OrderBecker,ProvidenceThe Oblongs (as conjoined twin brothers Biff and Chip Oblong), EntourageGrey's Anatomy (as conjoined twin brothers Peter and Jake Weitzman), Curb Your Enthusiasm (Jason only), and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (as dance marathon DJs on the episode "The Gang Dances Their Asses Off"). The Sklars have appeared in the films My Baby's DaddyBubble BoyWild Hogs andThe Comeback.
Once, on a long car trip my son and I listened to several podcasts on the way to our destination. On the way back, he asked if I'd like to listen to some more. I declined, but when he said, 'I haven't listened to them yet because I thought we could listen to them together,' well, who could resist an invitation like that?

The 157 weekly podcasts are sectioned into an opening section of banter between the brothers, followed by chats with their two guests, consecutively, and finally, a well done spoof interview, for example, Bryant Gumble complaining of racism in the NFL.

Please share your favorite podcasts with the rest of us.
