"DC Comics pull cover of Batgirl menaced by Joker after online protests"

"It was meant as a homage to 1988’s seminal Batman standalone story The Killing Joke, written by Alan Moore, in which the Joker attacked – and probably sexually assaulted or raped – Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon, leaving her in a wheelchair."

Teresa Justino, writing on the female-centric comics website The Mary Sue, said: “It’s disturbing. And while it’s certainly drawn well, and it references a classic story from The Joker’s history, the fact is, it’s not what many of Batgirl readers of any gender want to see for one of DC’s few female heroes currently with her own title.”

However, a counter-movement sprang up, with others calling on DC to #SaveTheCover – among them American actor Adam Baldwin – and saying that pulling the cover would amount to censorship.

The really irresponsible stuff is the Superman, and Spiderman comics encouraging kids to jump off buildings and fly around town breaking things.

I think they should censor the Archie comic books. That stuff is commie propaganda.

Even though I am not a DC fan, I am a comic book fan and I've ready many of the DC story arcs involving the joker and I read the Killing Joke back when it came out and the idea that people would be pissed at seeing the Joker and Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl on a cover is just symptomatic of the stupidity that the PC movement has foisted onto everything.

Oh sure, you can show homosexual content in a comic book, but heaven forbid you should talk about rape or sexual assault that one fictional character does to another. I mean after all, 50 shades of grey is a book about two fictional people engaging in BSDM and it's so hip and trendy, but cartoons raping each other? Heavens to Murgatroid!!!

Some say that the internet is for pr*n but it would be far more accurate to say it's for telling other people what they should be doing without having been asked for any advice whatsoever.
