He's dead, Jim. Also, je peux lire les sous-titres français avec beaucoup d'empressement.
Thanks for posting this - that reminded me of a CD I had years ago - Round-Up, with Erich Kunzel & Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. I bought it back in the '80s and played the heck out of it. Great album. Also, a great contrast in how Frankie Laine sounded in 1960 compared to 1986. Still Frankie, but his vibrato had simmered down a bit.
Maybe I will write a post about those great old western theme songs. Good stuff. That reminds me of how much I miss the west.
Kirk has a bigger bromance movie with Dewey Martin in "The Big Sky". They almost went into Bromance Back Mountain territory. My favorite KD/BL movie is "The Devil's Disciple". It's not a great movie but I find it the most entertaining film about the Revolutionary war. Supposedly they offered the part of the wife to Natalie Wood who turned it down. Hmmmm?

Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster made 7 movies together but no Hepburn/Tracy kinda stuff AFAIK.

There was bromance there. Did Douglas or Lancaster have onscreen chemistry with leading actresses?
It's funny but the most memorable role I recall for Kirk was the Navy pilot in "In Harm's Way" in which he raped a young nurse.

The Long Goodbye
Figures against the sky
And the land rolling away forever;
No wonder we miss the West,
Where youth is a never ender.
