On blogging

 

Blogging is an interesting thing. I love to do it. But it sometimes becomes a chore. 

You see the politics of it has begun to bore me. Wait that's not true. It has always sort of bored me. That's why my blogs always had a ton of non-political posts. I can't get upset so much at the vagaries and bullshit of the current outrages. I know where I stand. Most people are set in their positions. The latest outrage is just the latest outrage. If it's not Trayvon Martin it is Kyle Rittenhouse. It's all the same bullshit.

I come to realize that I want to blog about my personal doings. Which I don't think a lot of people are interested in. Or should be revealed and talked about for one reason or another. So I let days go by before I blog something.

I hope I can got more inspired. It is just that Slow Joe Biden has sucked all of the interest out of me. 

I mean he really sucks.

This has all happened before as I am sure if you are reading here you are already aware. The big dust up that brought about the genesis of this blog has been swept under the rug. I believe many of the posts and comments that went into the explosion have been deleted. Even on this blog by Lem. I recently went back in time and noticed a lot of stuff missing. Of course that was then and this is now. We don't delete troublesome posts here anymore. If you say just know it will go on your permeant record. 

I hope Shouting Thomas and other refugees who want a place to express themselves will join us here in this experiment of free speech and angry old man get off of my lawn speechifying.

What about that new joint for the former victims of TOP?

 As you might know there was a meltdown at TOP a couple of weeks ago and the comments were shut down. A bunch of those poor saps who still followed that shit show set up a new joint to converse and perverse as it were. I joined up to see what was what and have mentioned our little joint to see if I can get some people to drop by.

I don't know how long they will be in business but I wish them all the success in the world. They have a few solid contributors but the format does not seem to lend itself to long term conversation.

It's all in the game my friend.

The Left's War on Comments Sections....Been There Done That.

The internet was born open but is becoming closed everywhere. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the rush to shutter readers’ comments sections at major news organisations. Cheered on by intolerant, snobbish cultural elites, news organisations from The Verge to The Daily Beast have, in recent months, informed their readers to take their opinions elsewhere.

Dozens of progressive blogs and news outlets are following suit, citing “abuse” and “harassment” as the primary reasons they no longer want to hear the opinions of their readers. But that’s not what is really going on.

There was a time when comments sections were seen as the next step in a golden age of democratised communication, particularly by the political Left. “For the first time ever, we are thinking aloud, unfiltered by mass media gatekeepers,” wrote a former Hillary Clinton advisor in 2008. “Never before has the global discourse been so accessible, recursive, and durable.”

In 2009, the former online editor for the Washington Post wrote that despite their problems, readers’ comments allowed readers to “complain about what they see as unfairness or inaccuracy” and remind editors that they “do not always agree with journalists about what is important.”
