So now we know.....

David Chase the creator of the Sopranos has let the cat out of the bag. In a story in the New York Post it is reported that he called the famous last scene as the "Death Scene."

Spoiler alert: In the roundtable discussion, co-author Alan Sepinwall asked Chase, “When you said there was an end point, you don’t mean Tony at Holsten’s [the diner], you just meant, ‘I think I have two more years’ worth of stories left in me.’ ”
Then Chase, 74, dropped the bombshell: “Yes, I think I had that death scene around two years before the end … But we didn’t do that.”

Noticing his epic leak, co-author Matt Zoller Seitz chimed in: “You realize, of course, that you just referred to that as a death scene.”
“F - - k you guys,” replied Chase upon realizing his blunder."
It has long been speculated that Tony was hit by the guy at the counter who went into the bathroom to get the gun. Chase finally admitted that was the case even though he tried to make it be ambiguous so you could read it any way you wanted.

The prequel to the series has been filmed and will come out next year with James Gandolfini's son playing the young Tony.

Can't wait.

That interview was from over a year ago. I've seen this pop up in about three different places today. Odd. There is an exhaustive analysis of the final scene here. It takes a long time to plow through, but it's worth it (for the die hard fan). It's as long as a doctoral thesis. There has been so much written about the ending, it's crazy. I just don't see how you can come away not convinced that Tony gets whacked. This website makes a solid case for it. One of my favorite hints. The Little Feat song playing at the start of the scene is All That You Dream. The opening lyrics:

I've been down, but not like this before
Can't be 'round this kind of show no more

Sepinwall and Zoeller wrote a pretty good book I read a while back, The Soprano Sessions. Zoeller is writing a book about the series, Deadwood, A Lie Agreed Upon. I paid upfront for a bound edition. Zoeller says he is behind schedule because his wife died. I hope that's not a lie.

The new movie sounds great. They show all the characters we know as teenagers. The old-timers are in charge and the main protagonist is Dickie Moltisanti who is Christoper's father and Tony's mentor.

Tony's father Johnnie Soprano is played by the great Jon Berntahl who was so good in "The Punisher" series on Netflics.

Uncle Junior is played by the very talented Corey Stoll who you might remember from "House of Cards" where he played the hapless governor or "Antman" where he was the bad guy. He holds the mantle of best bald headed actor these days.

Ray Liotta is in it as well.

I can't wait to see it.

Sopranos was the height of the golden era of tv.
I always assumed that was a death scene but good to get confirmation.

Saw it. Thought it was a dud.

And the Golden era of TV was the 50s.

Sopranos was a great show, but it is difficult to land a show like that.

To David Chase's credit, at least he did not completely fail like they did on Game of Thrones. What a shit show Season 8 was, climaxing with a terrible stupid ending. Ruined the whole series that I can't go back and watch it at all.

GOT was never going to end well.
George Martin delivered the first half of the story arc in the first three books and then could not finish the job. Jerked everyone off for years. I think HBO knew, too.

The first three books were good. #4 and #5 showed he lacked the courage to finish.
He and HBO jerked everyone off for years and made a mint.
