Manhattanhenge — the twice-a-year-event when the sun sets in perfect alignment with the Manhattan street grid so you can see it setting between the buildings when looking west — happens for the second time this year on Saturday, July 12. The first Manhattanhenge of 2014 was on May 29.

How do you celebrate Manhattanhenge? Feasting? Grog? Group Orgie. Well take off the group orgie part and you would have St. Patrick's Day.
I'm guessing the drivers don't slow down any because of the sun glare.
Is this when the Feathered Serpent can be seen and they sacrifice the football team by throwing them into the subway?
What is that, roughly 3 week prior to, and after the equinox?
What a poorly planned city. The planners were no Druids, that's for true.
But the sun has been setting on that misbegotten hell hole for decades.
weeks^
Had city planners been prescient as the ancients and as half as superstitious they'd have in on equinox. As it is, as least one day a year the sun will line up, to one side of the grid or another.
Drat! Sixty beat me to it.
Same with the ancient Egyptians. Something at least will line up with something eventually. Light will flood the room at least one day a year if oriented to accept sunlight.

Last night I caught, "The three southwest corners of the three main pyramids line up to point to Elephantine."
Oh reeeeeealy? Do tell.
And the other three corners of two lesser pyramids along with the nose of the sphinx, had it not been whacked off, line up and point to Sheboygan.
And the tips of the pyramids triangulate to a star in Orion's belt, when you calculate back to their age, and that proves they were big on Orion.
This is what happens when you discard your religion. As mentioned earlier today we are hardwired for metaphysics. You start seeing it everywhere, seek you connection with the cosmos, look for meaning and your placement in creation, and find it. This sun moving between the buildings like that, it means you belong, you're connected with the celestial spheres.

It's time to harvest the pigeons.
ManhattanHenge is the Vine of our ancestors.
Our Vines startup again in a split second... theirs took a year.
The had the all the patience in the world... well, maybe not since there were other people around the world doing God knows what with their time... rather that staring at the sunset in a particular way.
Vine is a few seconds video looping video, brought to us by the limited characters, finger snap social media.
The video, when done right, compels you to keep watching it again and again and again and again.

Liking the art/Gardiner links, seeing I wouldn't have seen had something else not lined up right.
I'm going to try to catch that tomorrow. and maybe a movie while there.
Very cool post, Lem!
It was a cool post. I let a typo dampen my response, which needed to convey that I was seeing what I would not have otherwise seen or known about, and will look at Egyptian art with a new awareness as a result. I love connects like this.
