Seis Californias

"Supporters of a plan to divide California into six sates can begin collecting signatures to get the proposal on the ballot."
Secretary of State Debra Bowen announced that the proposed ballot initiative – known as Six Californias – could move forward Tuesday.

Under the plan, from venture capitalist Tim Draper, most of the Bay Area would be considered “Silicon Valley.” Napa, Sonoma and Marin Counties would become part of “North California.”

Valid voter signatures are needed from 800,000 to put the measure on the ballot statewide.

Even if voters approve the plan, it would face an uphill battle in congress.

Yes, because at least 3 or 4 of those states would be Conservative.

A simple split in half might have a shot. This will fail in the fall.

Wouldn't it be better if they divided up according to gender identification or identity group bitch?

Or have they already?

We need a state of LGBTQ. Did I get that right?

In one California ObamaCare will be translated as ObamaCuidado... which could also mean, watch out for Obama.

Balkanization has always succeeded where the arts of persuasion and discussion have failed.

I propose a Candid Camera type show with people's reactions when asked to sign the petition.

Longitudinally or latitudinally?

I make it out to be two each of red, blue, and purple ("North CA" and "South CA" would be in the latter category).

The suggested divisions don't make much sense to me. What is the justification for separate "North CA" and "Jefferson" states, for example, when combined they have fewer people than "West CA"?

Northern California, where I live (State of Jefferson) with the exception of the people in Marin, Napa, Sonoma area as well as the retread Hippies in the Humboldt are are mostly very conservative. So....a Northern California State that includes those areas would make it a toss up. Had they stayed with the confines of the State of Jefferson, there is NO doubt that would be a conservative state. The county that I live in votes 60 to 75% conservative. We are outnumbered by the urbanites NOW and would likely still be outnumbered.

I don't like this 6 state solution. It makes more sense to divide the state up by economic interests.

THIS proposal makes more sense.

Another reason it will fail, is that the Cities: San Francisco and Los Angeles especially rely on their appropriation of our (Northern Counties) water, timber, agriculture, hydro electric power and mineral resources. They don't DARE let us control our own resources and charge a fair market value. They would rather keep us in feudal servitude.

UPdate. I was confused. In this proposal, Marin and the rest would be separate from Jefferson State.

I approve. We have no common economic interests, social interests or cultural commonality. It would just be a smaller version California as it is now. The liberal moonbats calling the shots and keeping the rest of us in serfdom.

Congress?

Ballot initiatives get overturned by judicial fiat on a regular basis (if Democrats oppose the measure). No reason to worry Congress about it.

Sacramento is not going to want to give up any power, not in revenue, resources, or human collateral damage capital. Apparently they hound prior residents even after they've left.

The state healthcare insurance exchanges will make moving around between states difficult.

Latitudinal, with a jog or two here and there, would make sense politically. As it's LA and the greater SF area, to include Humboldt, that swing to the left.

Though DBQ's link is a good suggestion as well, especially the state names.

None of it will come to pass of course. All just the last gasp of a striper on a wet deck. Sensing that 10 percent of water, while drowning in that 90 percent of air.

This is just whistling in the wind. Given the massive immigration into California, ALL of it is going to be "Blue" soon.

Nevada is "blue", Oregon and Washington are "blue". And once enough foreign born liberals decide to immigrate or move there, Arizona will go.

Of course, Logically, if we had statesmen instead of political hacks in DC, Texas and Cali would've been split into at least 2 states each, years ago.

Its absurd that RI/Del/Vermont have 2 senators, while monster states like California and Texas also have 2.

Of course, I'm not complaining. We don't need 2 more Senator Boxers.

XRay said...

Well, rc beat me to it. As in WA and OR could be split somewhat similarly.

Let those 'coasters' sing for their supper. And it better be better than what they're singing now.

If it happens, I end up living in Detroit, CA, .......but the weather....

Can I just have my own state? No tax money needed, no electoral votes. We don't even need a flag - just 10 acres and one of those bullet trains - a tiny one where the engineer sits on top.

Trust me, you don't want us to have any more. Look who we send now.

If immigration caused states to turn blue, Texas would have been a Democratic stronghold for the last twenty years.

"Uphill in Congress"

LoL! As if any other state will favor Cali splitting into 6 parts and getting 12 Senators!

Revenant said...

Well, Alaska and Hawaii were brought in as states even though it reduced the relative Senate power of the existing states to do so.

So who knows?

Six? Last time I looked it was five. By the time this gets to voting, it'll be twenty-five.
