Number Three

Country music legend Waylon Jennings, dead at age 64.

Rest in peace, highwayman.

EDIT:  Reliable sources now confirm that Waylon Jennings died in 2002 on this date.

Ohhhh. That's very sad. I told you you were borrowing trouble.

I guess this is number three then.

I don't make up the rules. I just like to cite them.

I saw Waylon perform live about two years ago. He appeared to be in his eighties back then. I had no idea that he was only in his sixties.

I did my own chirbit homage a while back: link

Waylon's music was part of my parents' music and I rebelled against it. Now I know better.

RIP

Now THIS guy was a drinker.
Most known for "Someday the mountain might get them but the law never will" but good for a whole lot more.
RIP

Waylon died 12 years ago actually. I was lucky enough to see one of his last concerts.

Something is off, here. First off, Buddy Holly died back in 1959, and Jennings was a member of the band. That was just over 55 years ago. Jennings was in the band when he was nine?

Second, Wikipedia lists his birth date as June 15th, 1937. That makes much more sense as for him being a Cricket. But it also puts him at 76 years old.

Third, Wikipedia has him dead back in 2002, when he would have been 64.

Finally, IMdB also has him dead back in 2002.

What gives? Am I missing something?

Yeah, what she said!

He's a poster boy for the restrictions O-care will impose. Big drunk and DA and an oppositional personality, he goes down fighting windmills and ghosts and demons he can't remember. Shuda turned to reefer like Willie.

RIP. Finally.

Somebody quick go dig him up and see if he's in piece(s).

We're all getting old and can't remember shit. I blame ABC for Haz's embarrassment.

Mixing him up with someone else?

Trooper York said...

I think it was Merle Haggard who passed.

It is easy for city slickers to mix them up.

Old white men all look alike.

Of course that is not racism.

ABC story is dated in 2006

This is 2/13, not 4/1 or even 4/20.

Of course, I like to prank people too. I made a fake Bailey's spill so realistic that several people tried to clean it up.

Does that make three?

JAL said...

Third one being whoever it is who died that you guys can't figure out.

One of the greatest lines in the history of country music, by my reckoning.

Wait a minute. The reports of Merle's death was an internet hoax.

Well now. This is an interesting situation. Time for some clarifying.

First off, I admit to being wrong. I understand that those who read other blogs are shocked by an admission of being wrong, but that's how I roll, Jack.

I posted my (erroneous) announcement of Waylon's death after reading two other erroneous reports about Waylon's death. One was posted on Facebook by a large Country music organization; the other was an ABC online report with the wrong year of Waylon's death.

The Facebook posting has apparently been taken down. The ABC online report has been changed to note the anniversary of Waylon's death, not to announce that he died.

Apologies to one and all. Mea culpa.

By the way, PeeWee Herman is still alive.

Trooper York said...

It was actually Papa Walton.

They were easy to mix up.

I saw Waylon perform live about two years ago.

That may have been Joe Hill.

Michael Haz said...

No, the more I think about it, the more I think it was Taylor Swift. The had a lot in common.

MH, You sucked me into this too (my own bad though for not checking or remembering he passed). But what the heck, better late than never in posting a RIP for Waylon Jennings. Plus we did not have blogs in 2002.

At least...ahem...I did not post seeing him at a concert ten years after he died ; )

So, I take it we are still on the look out for number three then.

Keep a sharp eye, as Rush would say.

Hey Lem and Michael, I did see Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash in Asbury Park, NJ (at that theater on the pier) in the early 90s. I am pretty sure he was still alive then!
