On Fire and Ice

We too experienced a fire in town Christmas night.  MrM and I were enjoying quiet peace along with the last of the tartufos we’d made for our family’s Christmas Eve dinner (courtesy of a tartufo mention here at Levity by Trooper York several years ago–only with peppermint in place of the chocolate called for ) when a call came in from SonM.  He said there was a fire underway in town at a manufacturing facility located a half a block down the hill from him.  He’d left our house to go to the 150 year old wood frame building he’s in the process of restoring in town, to fill the Christmas bowl for the cat who keeps the place mouse-free, when he noticed a flickering of light outside the window. After realizing the flickering was actually flames of fire on the roof of a building on the street below him, he called 911 to learn the alert had just come in and help was on the way.  By the time the fire trucks and volunteer firefighters arrived, the entire roof was ablaze, lighting up the night sky with flames high enough to be seen from a mile away. It took six hours and use of another town’s ladder truck to finally bring it under control and put it out.  Though the damage was severe, they’d thankfully managed to keep it contained to the one building and stopped it from spreading to any of the surrounding structures.

Two weeks prior to that (just after the tornadoes had torn through KY) another major fire on the outskirts of our small town had taken out a large farm barn.  Both fires required firefighters and equipment from nearby towns and/counties (with multiple pumpers for the barn traveling back and forth to the city hydrants to refill)), along with numerous volunteers, and hours of time and effort to finally quench the flames.  Both fires, though small compared to the national disasters wrought by twisting winds and roaring fires that took place in KY and CO, left the people who owned and worked at those facilities with unexpected loss and devastation to handle.  Both required police presence to corral and handle the crowds of onlookers on foot and in cars who’d gathered to watch and managed to either clogged up the roads or park in the way of incoming equipment.

While the curiosity and the draw of something so unusual and life affecting is easy to understand (with myself as part of the crowd that gathered), the cluelessness that also showed up on the part of some of the lookers whose attention was diverted from their driving and apparently disconnected from the reality of more pressing needs on the part of others was something to behold.   In the overall, however, I was once again reminded of how frail, needy, self centered, and single focused humans can be, as well as how determined, strong, courageous, loyal, giving, and self-sacrificing they can also be   Most of the firefighters I saw appeared to be men, attending to difficult tasks that required endurance, strength, fortitude and dogged commitment, working together as a team to bring two devastating and relentless fires under control.  Unfortunately, there was a third fire yet to come.  Somehow, even though the one that started Christmas night was finally and thoroughly drenched and quenched in the wee hours of the morning of the 26th, with service crews working there all that day, it somehow managed to come roaring back to life again that night.   Same place, same time, with flames once again shooting through the roof and the whole scene a redo of what had taken place the night before.  As real and surreal  as it all was, what stood out most was hard work required and delivered by those committed to the task of putting out the fire and bringing things back under control.  At that point, pronouns and politics were not the main issue: safety, survival and working together were what mattered most.

It’s my sense what we saw unfold in our small community, and what takes place elsewhere when even greater damage and devastation happens, is what will eventually come through for the people of this country when push finally comes to shove, and the unexpected fire that’s been building finally breaks out.  Despite the cluelessness and self centeredness that inevitably shows up in the face of disaster, there will also be the strength and fortitude of those committed to doing their best to address reality when it breaks through and the lies and the spin are no longer enough to our protect our lives, loved ones and livelihoods in the streets and neighborhoods where we live and work.

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I’ve tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

The fall of West and the ultimate destruction of Western Civilization

I do not watch football anymore. The National Felons League has forfeited the regard of normal Americans in my eyes. They have normalized criminal behavior and celebrate "Urban" culture while having these criminals kneel to celebrate other petty criminals and disrespect our nation and it's sacred symbols.

Once upon a time I was a big time Giants fan. I had season tickets. I followed every minute of every game. I even went to training camp every year to see the new draft picks. But when the National Felons League descended into the abyss, I gave up my hard earned allegiance to Big Blue.

I do read some blogs about sports though to keep abreast of the sports world that I have divorced myself from because of its utter depravity. One of the best sires is Clay Travis's "Out Kick." He just posted something that made me want to puke.

Supposedly they want to bring ex-Miami coach Brian Flores to coach. Nothing good comes from the Dolphins. I remember when they imported Larry Csonka and he sucked balls. People move to Florida from New York. Not the other way around.

The kicker is that they want to import serial rapist Deshaun Watson. Twenty-two women say he raped them. That doesn't seem to bother the Mara's. Or the sick degenerate remnants of that once proud family.

I remember when the Giants represented class. The hard work and values of the white working class. Kyle Rote. Andy Robustelli. Sam Huff. Tucker Fredrickson.

Slowly but surely the values changed. Superior athletes who embraced the criminal lifestyle were incorporated into the team. Lawrence Taylor. The asshole who shot himself. Paxlico was his name. This latest move would be the last straw. Bringing a serial rapist in to lead your team. A guy who should be in jail is behind the center and the star of your team.

Disgrazia.

A plague on their house to the last generation.

It's sick out there and getting sicker.

On Toads and Diamonds; Human Camps and Campsites

I recently encountered the video below on another blog (American Digest) in a post about a house listed for sale for $295 million in LA.  In the twenty comments others left in response,  I was surprised to find no mention of the video or the other man-made "creation" it portrays.  That was the part of the post that impressed me the most, even more than the dollar amount or size and design features of the house.  However, I wasn’t sure how to respond, as I was half intrigued by the craziness involved all the way around, encompassing human camps and the two different campsites pictured.  I still don't know what to make of it.

Beyond the the awe and horror of seeing the mess of refuse left on the LA streets (in the early part of the video) was the wonder of the “bike sculpture” erected on a sidewalk in LA’s Koreatown by a homeless man to honor his dead girlfriend.  Standing 18 to 20 feet tall, it's comprised of a tangle of old bicycles and bicycles part wrapped together, with two American flags situated atop. Ironically,  it also surrounds one metal street sign (at the 2:31 mark) for BlueLA (dedicated to “electrifying LA one ride at a time”) and another conveying a warning of towing for unauthorized vehicles.  With the guy responsible for setting the whole thing up in public space over seven month's time expressing what sounds like his sincere hope that people "don't touch it" or come around to wreck or destroy his work.

What was I seeing in the overall?  A hazard?  An outcome?  A consequence?  Disconnect? Connection?  The essence of human creativity or a desire for meaning unusually or uniquely expressed?  One person or another out of touch with realty?  Whatever  that situation and conglomeration involves, the video, the "sculpture", the demeanor and attitude of the builder, and the curiosity and approach of the one doing the reporting definitely came through as a wonder to behold.   More impressive, in a myriad of ways, than a $295 million dollar house.

Get your books here.....

I have a bunch of books lying about all over the house. Now that I almost exclusively use Kindle I really don't have room or the inclination to keep a large library. I want to sell most of them if I can.

I tried to do it a couple of years ago with Amazon. I set up an account and actually sold a few. But it was big rip off. They paid very little and always made me wait. Plus, I shipped a bunch of books to them and when they didn't sell in three months, they said they were going to throw them out unless a paid a storage fee. I just lost them

I found a new venue to sell that someone recommended. It is called PangoBooks and it is available at the App store. It is a very easy download and you can set it up to sell your books. It is very user freindly and it has a lot of different collections.

My collection is very heavy in mystery, sci-fi, historical fiction and alternative history. Check it out if you can and help a fella out. You might see a good book that you can get at a great price. All of them are in great condition and I am sure you will enjoy them.

Mama is my Spirit Guide

As I noted in a comment to one of Troop's posts, I had some qualms about putting this up although the article itself is quite well done. Then Mama said she had seen it and was intrigued and since she has become house mother to this Internet frat (she did, after all, stand up for The Blonde), I felt I was on a bit firmer ground.

This is an extremely interesting piece by Emerald Robinson. Some may be put off by her Fake News rep as a conspiracy theorist, but, if the lady's right, she's right.

The stuff about Acosta (clues 2 and 3) seems less compelling than clues 1 and 4, particularly the mention of how all Epstein's pals were Lefties - you'd think he would have recruited Conservatives. If this was a blackmail scheme, why would they extort whatever from people who were part of the Deep State?

Unless, of course, somebody who was supposed to be part of the Deep State wasn't. It may explain why Ms Maxwell is still alive.

It also may explain why we knew so much so quickly about how '20 was stolen.

Stay tuned, batfans, this could get interesting.

THIS IS THE NIGHT

This is a pretty good movie about what it is like in a close-knit Italian neighborhood. It ain't Brooklyn but it is Staten Island. Which is where all of the wops in Brooklyn moved to over the Guinea Gangplank.

Worth checking out on Netflicks. Just sayn' you mooks.

The Babe Abides

The Babe wasn't sophisticated in his politics. He was a dyed in the wool Democrat. He did campaign for his candidate. But he didn't let it take over his life or disrespect the game.

Some of the mooks today could take a lesson.

You're Sixteen You're Beautiful (And You're Mine)

You know it was 16 degrees today in New York.  It’s not beautiful and it ain’t mine.

This song didn’t age well. Super creepy Epstein style perving  on kids. Which was the height of cool back in the day.

It’s interesting what was normal when we were young and will get you canceled today.

I don’t get the fascination with very young girls but it has been around a long time.

I am just worried about freezing my balls off.

You know what I say to those who demand I get a booster shot?

Bite my wiener.

(How do you think she lasted so long in Hollywood? She really knew how to suck down a wiener. Just sayn')

I had a hot time this Christmas

Sorry for not posting more but the Holidays got in the way.

This was my Christmas present.

On Christmas Eve a car parked outside our house blew up and started burning. The fire department came and put it out. It belonged to the people across the street that we have been warring with for months. There are four brothers who live there, and they all have cars along with their girlfriends. It was one of the girlfriend's cars. We put the cone out so they move forward so we can get out of the driveway. We would curse them every day for blocking us and say, "I hope your fucking car blows up."

How the hell did that wish be the one that was granted for Christmas.

Is this really necessary?

So, the wife had to redecorate the bathroom. You see her Mom didn't like the beach motif we had going, and she loves this picture. It is a beach motif but has bathing beauties from the twenties eating a sandwich.

Don't ask me.

It is just very uncomfortable when I am taking a shit and they are staring at me.

I just can't get a break.

On Barking Mad

No cartoon drawings this time around.  No outsized body parts or golden girls to celebrate, no loose dogs to be corralled, but another public mention of mass formation psychosis and the willingness of people to be led by liars.  This time showing up in quotes taken from Dr. Robert Malone’s interview with Joe Rogan, as published in the Epoch Times:

Toward the end of his interview, Malone suggested that people are in the midst of what he called “mass formation psychosis,” drawing parallels to the mentality that developed among the German population in the 1920s and 1930s.

In those years, Germans “had a highly intelligent, highly educated population, and they went barking mad,” Malone said.

“When you have a society that has become decoupled from each other and has free-floating anxiety in a sense that things don’t make sense, we can’t understand it. And then their attention gets focused by a leader or series of events on one small point, just like hypnosis. They literally become hypnotized and can be led anywhere.

“They will follow that person. It doesn’t matter if they lie to them or whatever.”

Several years ago, he said, people were “complaining the world doesn’t make sense” and that we weren’t “connected socially anymore, except through social media.”

“Then this thing happened,” Malone said, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. “That is how mass formation psychosis happens and that is what has happened here.”
